4. The Stitching

1) Check for exact, seamless rows of stitching going along your coat. Take a close look for any hanging threads, which are a big red flag that the garment is a knock-off.

2) It takes one year for each specialist tailor to learn the stitching of the trench coat's collar - the most intricate part of its construction. More than 180 stitches are sewn by hand to create a fluid curve that sits perfectly on the neck.

The "Made In" label will be on top of the size label. This size tag is written out in centimeters.

2) Check that "BURBERRY" is written on the tag in large, capital letters. All letters will be the same size and centered in the middle of the label. If the stitching doesn't look uniform, or if the letters are lowercase, then the coat is likely a fake.

Pre-1998/9, Burberry went by“Burberrys”and tags would say“Burberrys”,“Burberrys Made in England”,“Burberrys London Paris New York”and “Burberrys of London”depending on decade and if the item was sold/manufactured in England or overseas.
Post-1998/9, they changed their name to simply“Burberry" and tags will say“Burberry London”.
If you see a tag saying “Burberry of London”with no s, it is definitely fake. If it says“Burberry London” and it's real, there's only a 2 year threshold to call it vintage (1998-1999).

2) Some coats may have a logo of a knight riding a horse. It must accompany a small symbol of a knight on a horse which is always left-facing. The logo should be sharply defined so that the horse and the knight can be easily made out.

6. Where Is Burberry Made?

7. The Hang Tag

1) All new Burberry coats have a tag hanging off the side of the garment, attached by a sturdy string. You won't be able to rip the tag and string off the jacket - instead, you'll have to cut it off with a pair of scissors. If the tag is flimsy and easy to remove, then the coat is a fake.

2) The Burberry logo's font is the same, whether it is on a button or a tag. Check the hang tag, as a key element on the Burberry logo is the capital letter R which has a small horizontal line on the left-hand side (much like a serif) that curves upwards.

8. Burberry Trench Coat Serial Number Check

1) Authentic Burberry coats have a rectangular fabric tag stitched along the inside of the garment —this will include what the coat is made out of, along with care instructions.

2) On the backside of the label, look for a 13-digit serial number, as well as their London address. A tag without serial number or a written is a sign of fake Burberry coat.
