Clarks is a British international shoe manufacturer and retailer. It was founded in 1825 by Cyrus Clark in the village of Street, Somerset, England, where the company's headquarters remain.

Clarks Shoes Design & Style

Clarks is commonly known for its Desert Boot which was made first in 1950, and it's been a classic ever since. It was an ankle height boot with crepe rubber sole, usually made out of calf suede leather traditionally supplied by Charles F Stead & Co tannery in Leeds. The Desert Boot was initially sold in Britain through shops in Regent Street, featuring a Union Jack sewn into the label, targeted at tourists.

Clarks Desert Boots are adopted as the footwear of choice by a range of groups including the Beatnik Culture of the US, Mods in the UK and Rude Boys in Jamaica of the decades. The Desert Boot was cut on the men's Guernsey Sandal last and sampled in a neutral beige-grey 2mm chrome bend split suede. Sported by the likes of David Beckham and Pharrell Williams, Clarks Originals are right on-trend. The new Desert Boot fall colors and classics feature the beloved beeswax leather and sand suede.

The famous Clarks Wallabee was inspired by the style of a moccasin shoe. Wallabees suede shoes and boots prove to be highly popular and will go on to become the footwear of choice for a range of subcultures including many music artists for years to come.

Brand History and Origin

The RockportGroup is an American shoe manufacturer based in Newton, Massachusetts. Brands include Aravon, Dunham and Rockport, and the Rockport Cobb Hill Collection. The company produces footwear that is available in various retail channels in more than 60 countries worldwide.

The Rockport story begins when Father and Son team Saul and Bruce Katz purchased 3000 pairs of specially developed moccasins by shoe developer Walter Dryer in Rockport Massachusetts.The pair would travel to nearby Boston to sell them in local leather shops, the shoes came in a plain white box and became known locally as“Rockport type" shoes, prompting the team to decide to brand their shoes as 'Rockport' and formed the Rockport Company in 1971. The aim of the company was simple, to produce casual shoes and dress shoes that had the comfort of a sneaker.

It came under Reebok's ownership in 1986. Reebok and its subsidiaries were purchased by Adidas in 2005. Later Reebok was sold to German athletic shoe pioneer Adidas. Charlesbank Capital Partners purchased the company out of bankruptcy in July 2018.

The aim of Rockport is simple, to produce casual shoes and dress shoes that had the comfort of a sneaker. Rockport's first product was the Country Walker, introduced in 1973. On the basis of the company's subsequent RocSport shoe and those that followed, Bruce Katz is credited by the shoe industry monthly Footwear Plus with creating the "modern-day lightweight and technology-infused comfort shoe concept." Rockport shoes of this period were designed as alternatives to athletic shoes, which were gaining in popularity as all-purpose footwear. 

The Rockport "World Tour" model, the company's signature walking shoe from the late 1990s until 2015. Rockport is credited with inventing the walking shoe and popularizing walking as a form of exercise and a healthy alternative to running. Rockport also invested in research into the biomechanics of walking to design its shoes.
