Balenciaga Triple S History and Origin

Balenciaga is a luxury fashion house founded in 1919 by the Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga in San Sebastian, Spain and bought afterwards by French luxury group Kering. Balenciaga had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and was called "the master of us all" by Christian Dior.

His bubble skirts and odd, feminine, yet "modernistic" silhouettes became the trademarks of the house. His work was described as equal to sculpture, architecture and objet d’art in its precision and allure. Despite all this, the maven closed his Paris maison in 1968, before passing away four years later aged 77. The fashion house remained silent for almost two decades, before a new wave of designers were employed, in quick succession, to transport the brand into the 21st century.

The desiner Gvasalia's take on 'fashion'  sneakers - the Balenciaga 'Triple S' trainer, first shown in Pairs in January 2017 - is quite simply the coolest, most provocative artefact to come off the menswear catwalk in modern times. The Triple S falls into this camp for many- enough people anyway that it’s helped make Balenciaga one of luxury's hottest brands.

Balenciaga Triple S Official Price: $729-1150

Balenciaga Triple S Design & Style

The 'S' in Triple S stands for sole. Three soles hold up the aptly named Triple S-and clearly meant to be more gritty than pretty. It was Inspired by three different sports, namely running, basketball, and track and field to create the 6.5cm platform. These are all stacked on top of one another to create a hybrid unit like no other. The effect is of a trainer that appears to be multiplying from the bottom, down. With new colorways of the style coming at customers hard and fast since its debut a few years ago.

Hulking behemoth of a sneaker, the Triple S, which has since been credited with helping kickstart a trend of chunky, “ugly” athletic dad shoes. An exercise in excess, this approach to design was in stark contrast to the years of minimalist trainers, low-profile silhouettes and restrained detailing that preceded it. The look of large shoes are more stable and masculine, and that creating a new silhouette is what makes a product succeed.

Balenciaga Triple S Quality & Comfort

Balenciaga Triple S sneakers are made of premium fabrics and materials. The Balenciaga Triple S' s upper comprises a patchwork of leather, mesh, jersey and at some toe box, a proprietary reflective 3M material.

These shoes also feature a myriad of textures. Pummeled, chevron, cross-hatched, smooth and matte surfaces create a unique and distinctive appearance.  On the other hand, regardless of the colorway,  there is the hard, or glossy plastic outsole  that supports the instep. It will always be printed with a raised Balenciaga logo, and will be surrounded with the shoe's rubber treading.

Some iterations of the Triple S will include a fabric pull tab at the shoe's counter. However, if the counter is leather and a newer version, it will instead be embossed with Balenciaga's BB logo. Earlier versions of the Triple S feature a tongue tag with a sateen finish, but newer tags are made of a matte, papery Tyvek material.

The thickness of the sole means it doesn't show wear quickly and the rubber finish makes it easy to clean. The Triple S hold their value thanks to the durability of the composition.

  • Balenciaga Track Sneaker Review

Balenciaga Track History and Origin

Balenciaga trump its own trainer hype with the launch of its Track model. First seen in March during the brand's autumn/winter 2018 presentation in Paris, the Track builds on the hi-tech, turbo template of the Triple S, but puts functionality at its core. The high-tech Balenciaga Track 1 launched worldwide in five colorways for men and two for women.

The high-tech shoe from Demna Gvasalia received a closer look, spotlighting the model's high-performance features taken from hiking and running sneaker silhouettes. The Track is a unique combination of athletic and fashion elements. Combined with flashes of neon, it resonates with '80s trend and will fast become another cult favourite.

Balenciaga Track Official Price: $895-$1350

Balenciaga Track Design & Style

Gvasalia's version features an exaggerated tread, layers of overlapping, color-clashing protective panels, and hulking, built-out sole which extends out at the heel. The sneaker is then finished with Balenciaga branding on each side alongside the shoe size decorated on the toe and a special “TRACK” logo on the rear.

Balenciaga Track 2 featured a similarly dynamic upper design fitted with over 170 different parts. This iteration boasts an extremely caged upper, reinforced round toe, rope laces, and a high-rise tricolor rubber outsole. Hard-to-miss logo details can be found at the tongue and near the ankle. Three faux-distressed colorways are available: multi-tonal white, multi-tonal black, and the colorblock shade pictured here.

Spring/Summer 2024 saw the arrival of a new member of the Track family in the Track 3. The third iteration of the popular model is significantly more stripped back than its predecessors, removing a large majority of the layered details across the midfoot, and focusing on the overall shape of the sneaker and its iconic distressed sole. Though it's available in classic black, the Track 3 looks best in shades of flashy blue, pink, and beige, the shoe's debut colorways.

Balenciaga Track Quality & Comfort

Fitted with a mind-bogglingly complex layered upper, Balenciaga's Track sneakers have been endlessly remixed since they first dropped a few years back.

Taking inspiration from the '90s and '00s, these Balenciaga's Track sneakers are crafted from a combination of patent faux leather, suede and mesh. From the mind of artistic director Demna Gvasalia, the Track features hiking and running performance elements, with overlapping protective panels, extended tread, and fortified soles. Balenciaga's Track 3 sports a mesh and nylon upper - it's vegan.

As for the Balenciaga Track sneaker's comfort,  It just feels like walking on a hardened but cushioned carpet.

  • Gucci Rhyton Sneaker Review

Gucci Rhyton Sneaker History and Origin

Gucci is an Italian fashion label founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci, making it one of the oldest Italian fashion brands in operation today. Like many historic fashion houses, the brand started out as a luggage manufacturer, producing luxury travel goods for Italy's wealthy upper-classes, as well as equestrian equipment.

The trend of designer trainers and sneakers has been around forever but it has really caught the momentum in the last few years with all major fashion houses like Gucci also throwing their weight behind comfort shoes reimagined as luxury footwear.

The Gucci Pre-Fall 2018 collection is an ode to the 90's with the iconic retro-sport trend forming a major part of it. The first chunky shoe by Gucci, the Rhyton sneaker, challenged the likes of Triple S by Balenciaga and other 'dad' sneakers in the market. And did they reach an unshakable spot on the list of must-have sneakers.

Gucci Rhyton Official Price:  $890- $1190  (Children's Rhyton: $435-$660)

Gucci Rhyton Design & Style

Since the Rhyton made its debut, the behemoth-like shoe has become a fast favorite for sneaker and high-fashion fans alike. The first collection, each spotted in off-white and black, features a smooth leather upper, thick rubber midsole, gum-hued outsole and multicolored stripe designs landing on the lateral side of each shoe. Gucci branding found on the tongue and heel complete the look.

From the bulky silhouette that carries the same colorway from uppers to soles, to the flamboyant branding usually found on the sides, the Gucci sneakers are bold, playful and translate the brand's current aesthetic effortlessly.

With the many iterations the brand presents year after year, every new update is a fresh take on the famous Rhyton silhouette that's top-of-mind for every sneaker-enthusiast, such as Gucci Web Print Rhyton, SEGA Logo Rhyton, GG Rhyton, Mouth Print Rhyton, NY Yankees Rhyton, Leather Rhyton Sneakers, etc. You can keep things as classic Gucci with a white sneaker featuring a print of the iconic red and green, or opt for a black sneaker with blue, red, and white stripes on the side-either one is a winner in their book.

Gucci Rhyton Quality & Comfort

Gucci Rhyton sneakers are made of quality leather, or GG canvas. Created with the same processes used for tanning, the new material - Multicolor GG canvas offers pliable and resilient performance with a supple finish. The eco-friendly material combines animal-free raw materials primarily from sustainable, renewable, and bio-based sources.

The sole is thick and the construction is pretty chunky. A closer look about this fine craftsmanship of the retro-inspired low-top shoes. The double-stitching reinforces the sturdy leather exterior while the outsoles not only give height but also a cushioned feel when worn. The Gucci Rhyton sneakers go so well with all types of outfits, and can really complete a simple look. Because they don't need breaking in, and they are quite comfortable. They fit like a sock and offer ample space for your toes.

Balenciaga Triple S

Balenciaga sneakers that attracted much attention amongst influencers and fashionistas alike. The brand is to deconstruct something in order to create something else - destruct to create. They particularly focus on the modernity of comfort, functionality and technicality. The Balenciaga Triple S can be a running shoe, or hiking boot. Meanwhile, it was intended to be chunky, but never ugly.

Balenciaga Track

The Balenciaga Track is a unique combination of athletic and fashion elements. The high-tech dad shoes are spotlighting the model's high-performance features taken from hiking and running sneaker silhouettes and fitted with a mind-bogglingly complex layered upper. Gucci Rhyton

Gucci's incursion into the chunky sneaker fad culminated in making the Gucci Rhyton an icon of the trend. Extravagant and packed with hints to the brand's DNA, especially the Web band, it has been sitting on the throne of fashion essentials. The Gucci Rhyton sneakers go so well with all types of outfits.
