  • Lululemon

Lululemon Brand History and Origin

Lululemon Athletica is an American-Canadian multinational athletic apparel retailer domiciled in Delaware and headquartered in Vancouver. It was founded in 1998 as a retailer of technical yoga pants and other active wear for yoga, running, training and most other sweaty pursuits, and has expanded to also sell athletic wear, lifestyle apparel, accessories, and personal care products.

Over the last two decades, the brand has grown into a global phenomenon. Wilson took the company public in 2005. The company generated more than $2.6 billion in revenue in 2017 and now has more than 400 stores around the world.

Lululemon Price: Women's Leggings: $29-$198; Women's Joggers: $49 -$248; Women's Shorts: $19-$108;  Men's Joggers: $59-$248;  Men's Shorts: $39-$128.

Lululemon has designed products with the goal to advance a movement, stand out from the competition and help brands build consumer loyalty. Lululemon specializes in laser-focused performance wear. The brand's high-quality yoga pants became a cult item. Many women found them so comfortable that they wore the pants out of the yoga studio and into everyday life.

Each product has an express purpose: Some leggings are designed specifically for running while others are designed specifically for yoga, for example. The product description of each item tells you what it's made for and how that specific product will improve your performance at that activity. This niched-down emphasis is likely what drives the brand's popularity. The bright colors, flattering fits and durable fabrics help, too.

Lululemon Quality

Lululemon's clothing is crafted to empower people to be comfortable while moving their bodies in yoga and while doing fitness training. The company looked at research data in fitness apparel and found out that buyers expect two things from their gym gear and outfits: Performance - outfits that hold up during strenuous exercises. Comfort and Style - apparel that feels and looks great.

To achieve activewear of excellent performance, comfort, style, Lululemon put together a team of experts. The team is spearheading the brand's research and development of sustainable and innovative materials, from the brand's HQ's in Vancouver, Canada. Lululemon has earned a reputation as the go-to yoga pant that many people swear by. Further, innovative product launches such as the Nulu fabric, which is designed to give the feeling of freedom of being naked, help the brands customers live their best yoga everywhere they go.

  • Vuori

Vuori Brand History and Origin

Vuori was launched in 2015 in California, offering premium performance gear with influences of an active coastal California lifestyle, including fitness, surf, sport, and art in their apparel. The brand offers men and women's clothing tailored for training, running, swimming, yoga, and traveling.

Being someone that has always loved product and design, the founder Joe Kudla looked around and asked the question, "What do guys wear to yoga?" In southern California, the guys that didn't grow up playing competitive team sports were wearing boardshorts - designed for surfing - to exercise in. There wasn't a brand building premium and versatile gear for men that you actually wanted to wear both in and out of the gym.  Hence, Vuori's initial focus on men. Women's would launch in 2018, and now the brand’s gender mix is evenly split.

Vuori Official Price: Women's Shorts and Skirts: $27 -$108; Women's leggings: $44 -$108; Women's Joggers:$47- $118; Men's Shorts: $31- $110; Men's Joggers: $68- $128.

Vuori Design & Style

Vuori makes premium performance apparel inspired by the active Coastal California lifestyle; an integration of fitness, surf, sport, and art. Breaking down the boundaries of traditional activewear, they are a new perspective on performance apparel.

Inspired by its home of Southern California, Vuori blends one of a kind functionality with sleek, stylish designs that perform just as well as they look. Kudla wanted to make activewear clothing that he “actually wanted to wear”rather than what the mainstream brands were offering. Vuori's focus was on versatile clothing that could be worn for a workout followed by an errand around town.

Another thing to mention is the fact that one can't fail to mention that Vuori does seem to be most focused on making more workout or sport-oriented shorts. Not that Vuori discloses that, but most of their designs aren't that formal or casual.

Vuori Quality - Material & Durability

The fabrics that Vuori uses are, on average, 2-4X the cost of the fabrics used by the big active brands. They work with better materials and better construction, and they design their gear with a more modern, athletic fit. From a product standpoint, everything Vuori makes includes technical properties.

Vuori is always sourcing and developing textiles that have unique technical properties, ranging from how the fabric manages sweat and moisture to how it deals with bacteria and odor, and most importantly how it moves with your body while maintaining great shape.

  • LuLaRoe

LuLaRoe Brand History and Origin

LuLaRoe is a United States-based multi-level marketing company that sells women's clothing. It was founded in 2012 by DeAnne Brady and her husband Mark Stidham and is currently based in Corona, California.

As a multi-level marketing scheme, LuLaRoe recruits independent distributors (referred to by the firm as "fashion consultants") to sell products directly, often through social media. For Independent Fashion Retailers, this innovative business model provides an opportunity to sell comfortable, affordable and stylish clothing through pop-up boutiques and social media live sales; which allows families to build lasting relationships in their communities and network with customers around the country.

LuLaRoe Official Price: Womens Bottoms & Leggings: $14-$48; Kids leggings: $12.

LuLaRoe Design & Style

LuLaRoe provides value to an underserved market segment in America: focusing on simple and affordable fashion for women, men and children-while offering something for all personalities and body types. Currently, LuLaRoe exclusively provides clothes and collections for women. A variety of dresses, overlays, skirts, bottoms, leggings, and tops are available from this company.

Unique, limited-edition prints and patterns have created a nationwide“unicorn hunt”as Consumers seek out thousands of LuLaRoe Independent Fashion Retailers nationwide to find their favorite pieces.

Each “print”is only made into 2,500 pieces which is then split up between the different styles of clothing and sizes. That means you won't see a ton of the same print in the same size and style – making their clothing choices unique.

LuLaRoe Quality - Material & Durability

The diverse styles and sizes of LulaRoe offer many options that can be dressed up or down for day-to-night looks in a variety of fits and fabrications.

LulaRoe is most known for their “buttery soft” leggings sold in bold patterns and prints, while Lululemon trademarked their original fabric, Luon, in 2005. It's true, the leggings are often referred to as“buttah”because they are so soft.  In spite of their confusing names, LuLaRoe and Lululemon have almost nothing in common. Yes, they both have a bit of a “culty” vibe and a “women empowerment” message, but one is arguably far more legitimate than the other.

  • Gymshark

Gymshark Brand History and Origin

Gymshark was founded in 2012 by schoolyard chums Ben Francis and Lewis Morgan in the United Kingdom. Though initially only supplying bodybuilding supplements, in 2013 they began designing and producing a range of sports apparel, and by 2016, The Sunday Times had named them the UK’s Fastest Growing Company for that year.

With an assortment of clothing for women and men, accessories, and equipment, Gymshark is a company with everything you need for a good sweat sesh. The apparel they market most frequently includes hoodies, t-shirts, workout vests and leggings, and despite an initial focus on the male target audience, two thirds of their sales are now attributed to women.

Gymshark Official Price: womens bottoms & leggings: $10-$61.2; womens shorts: $10-$41.60;  mens bottoms & joggers: $15-$51.60; mens shorts: $10.40-$39.60.

Gymshark Design & Style

You have an almighty selection to choose from, men and women alike, from leggings and track pants to hoodies, jackets, swimwear and sports bras – if you can wear it doing exercise, then Gymshark sell it.

For those who like to look good and feel good, all of their matching sets and single pieces are available in hundreds of colors, from bold and bright to pretty pale pastels, with something to suit even the most stylish of gym-goers.

They have six main collections: Adapt, Energy, Essentials, Flex, Seamless and Vital, with some proferring more high-end, designer style items and others, like Essentials and Vital, aiming to target the basic gym wear that most of us look for.

Gymshark Quality - Material & Durability

The majority of the Gymshark offerings are elastane, nylon, and polyester. Nylon is the primary material of the three due to its softness. Gymshark focuses on providing its customers with a comfortable experience when working out. Polyester is known for its sweat-wicking properties, which help you feel dry even after an intense workout. However, this also comes with an odor problem since the material will absorb the sweat. Elastane provides the stretchiness of the apparel.

With the three, you get the good material for stretching, running, and any other workouts you might be engaged in. They are comfortable to wear and easy to put on. However, the materials that Gymshark uses are often cheaper than lululemon's, and from personal experience, we can attest that sometimes this shows.

  • Conclusion

Lululemon vs. Vuori vs. LuLaRoe vs. Gymshark: which one wins the athleisure brand showdown?Lululemon

The clothes are designed to hold up during yoga and other low-impact forms of exercise (such as walking and cycling), but you may want to choose something more durable for high-intensity workouts. Lululemon would be the perfect fit if you want to invest in durable clothing that will stand up to uber-sweaty, high-impact workouts and if you’d rather have good quality material regardless of cost.

Vuori

Vuori is a much more sustainable and ethical brand by far while still matching the good quality of Lululemon for a lower price.  Each piece is functionally built with durable performance material to withstand the toughest workouts, but designed with next-level comfort top of mind and a more casual aesthetic that effortlessly transitions into everyday life. However, Vuori's materials are less supportive and compressive than Lululemon's, if that's important to you.

LuLaRoe

LuLaRoe is a controversial multi-level marketing company with widely printed, cheaply manufactured leggings;  They sell comfy, affordable, and trendy women's lifestyle apparel online through“independent retailers”.  Lululemon is a high-end luxury athleisure brand with expensive, sleek yoga gear.  They both have a bit of a “culty”vibe and a“women empowerment”message, but one is arguably far more legitimate than the other.

Gymshark

Gymshark definitely have the wider range of categories to choose from. If you're looking for workout gear for serious weight lifting and other more vigorous sports, or if you're looking for clothes that are going to accentuate your muscles, defining the body parts you're most proud of then you'll probably prefer buying your gear from Gymshark.
