It has become a cultural and stylistic phenomenon, streetwear meant “unflattering fashion consisting of graphic T-shirts, baggy cuts and worn-out sneakers.” All the streetwear brands always sell hoodies and T-shirts. Supreme is the perfect example: one of the best streetwear labels in the world right now. Besides, Fear of God (FOG) , Essentials, Pacsun are also popular brand in the fashion field today, but which one is the best? Is essentials the same as Fear of God? Why is essentials so popular? Is fear of God Essentials luxury? Is PacSun a good brand? Is Supreme still cool 2024?In this guide, I will compare them from history, price, design and quality.

Fear of God Brand History and Origin

Fear of God is an independent American luxury streetwear label, founded in 2013 in Los Angeles by Jerry Lorenzo. Despite being a late starter in the industry (with no formal fashion design training), Lorenzo has since designed tour merchandise for Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Jay Z and Kendrick Lamar. 

Taking cues from hip-hop and sports stars of the '90s, Lorenzo creates clothes that are contemporary yet season-less. What started as a predominantly streetwear-focused brand, with flannel shirts and sweats, has now morphed into a brand known for its quality tailoring and unisex suiting

By the end of 2017, Fear of God had become a veritable force in menswear-at both the luxury and mass-market levels. As streetwear reached its peak in 2018, Lorenzo decided to shutter F.O.G., the diffusion line, and replace it with Essentials.

Now, Adidas officially announces its long-term partnership with Fear of God, led by owner and founder Jerry Lorenzo. The new pillar will focus on performance basketball and active lifestyle products that complete Fear of God's triune nature and compliments the brand's other two pillars, Essentials and Fear of God's luxury mainline. Lorenzo still doesn't adhere to the dictates of the traditional fashion calendar-he puts out a new Fear of God collection only when he's ready, usually once every year or so.

Design & Style

The brand is known for selling high quality streetwear staples-plaids, abraded denims, oversized hoodies-to a luxury clientele, but its appeal can be difficult to define in exact terms. 

Today, Fear of God doesn't just make T-shirts anymore. It makes anything you might think to put on. Lorenzo has called Fear of God a“solutions-based” brand, and while that's a nod to filling gaps in the market, it's also a reference to the modular dressing that Lorenzo champions, predicated on interchangeable pieces.

His seventh collection includes denim and sneakers and a classical, graphic homage to the Negro Leagues, but for the first time, it also contains elevated knitwear, louche suiting, even loafers: effortless but expertly tailored clothes made to be worn from inside, rather than outside, the gates. As Lorenzo has brought tailoring into his seventh collection, he's done it on his terms, taking everything stiff and uncomfortable out of the garments, which wear as easy and casually as the sweatpants he still makes. Lorenzo trained a generation of men to value comfort and informality.

Gender doesn't constrict his designs, he instead focuses on unisex shapes to be worn by everyone. The pieces came in Fear of God's regular color palette-worn-out denim and comfortable sweatshirts in earthy pale greens and sandy grays and gray sands and gray blacks and actual grays, colors to escape notice in but that photograph well-and unbalanced silhouette. 

Fear of God has also collaborated with myriad brands such as Converse, Nike, Adidas, and, recently, luxury menswear brand Zegna, but Fear of God remains wholly independent.

While Lorenzo had once contented himself with using shiny RiRi zippers to up the luxe factor, he was now sourcing fabrics in Italy and Japan. Crafting timeless, wearable garments, the brand's distinct interpretation of the American expression has become an emblem of contemporary culture. Paying homage to the unique heritage with a contemplated and sophisticated fusion through high-grade materials and fine craftsmanship. On the other hand, Lorenzo was also making a savvy move to make his clothing more accessible. 

As Fear of God's clothing has gotten more formal, the idea's still the same - it still wanna be just as comfortable. So regardless of what the piece is, whether it's a blazer or a hoodie. It's landing the plane between sophistication and comfortability-you know, that could live in a suit, that could live in a hoodie, that could live in a T-shirt with the perfect neckline. Essentials Brand History and Origin

Essentials is one of Fear of God's newest sub-lines for younger audiences. It launched in 2018 is an associated label of God's Fear that considers the pricing dynamics and competitiveness when setting the prices. According to Fear of God, Jerry has taken modern American culture by storm by dealing with enduring fashion wear that attempts to interpret Americanism

The idea behind the Essentials was that the founder wanted to capture the women and children's market, which he felt was untapped as they could not access the initial luxury Fear of God products, that were sold at high prizes.

Essentials Design & Style

Of the ESSENTIALS Spring 2024 collection, which includes 50 styles for women and with sizing in men's and women's sizes XXS – XXL and kids' size 2/3 – 14/16. The collection also includes some covetable pieces that take inspiration from classic American style too. 

Jerry Lorenzo concentrated on easy, streetwear informed womenswear pieces for the first time, with his own sense of understated cool of course. The introduction of womenswear to the Essentials line really taps into the louche, comfy cool style that the label has capitalized on, without feeling like there's too much overlap between the menswear pieces. The simple skirts and easy dresses are made for comfort, but could also be transformed and dressed up with other wardrobe staples.

True to Fear of God form, the color palette is centered on neutral tones of sand, rust, cream, and gray. “In the same way that, I'm scanning and observing how guys dress, I'm looking at women in the same way and saying, hey, maybe the short could be shorter, maybe this skirt could be longer, maybe this cardigan could have a little bit more volume,” says Lorenzo of his design process.

Essentials Quality - Material & Durability

Both the Fear of God and its sister aim to authenticate the essentials through quality. Jerry wanted to craft products that were accessible and affordable without compromising on quality. At the same time, he espoused transparency by revealing to the clients that it was relatively different from the Fear of God products in terms of quality essentials. 

For the price, the quality of Essentials is very good in terms of materials (on par or better than others at the price point. The stitching could definitely be better). There is very little shrinkage that occurs which points toward the material quality. Anyone who compares the mainline to the Essentials line... they are missing the point. The two are magnitudes apart in price and as such should be magnitudes apart in quality.

PacSun Brand History and Origin

PacSun Quality - Material & Durability

Pac Sun's clothing quality goes deeper than thread counts and well-woven fabrics. It also includes how the fabrics are manufactured, where they come from, and how ethically they are sourced. PacSun manufactures domestically in the US as well as overseas in China, Germany, Turkey, Nigeria, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Thailand and Indonesia.

The really good part about PacSun is their sales. They have some pretty nice sales where you can get jeans or hoodies fairly cheap. But Pac Sun is mostly a brand for young people, so if you are older I would definitely avoid it. They have some good items like pants but for the most part their store is kids like themed and the quality won't last you more than a few months if that.

Supreme Brand History and Origin

Supreme is an American clothing and skateboarding lifestyle brand established in New York City in April 1994. The brand is targeted at the skateboarding and hip hop cultures, and youth culture in general. 

Supreme was started when a man named James Jebbia opened the company's flagship store in Manhattan, paving the way for the burgeoning skateboard scene in New York City. The brand produces clothes and accessories and also manufactures skateboards.

Supreme releases new products through their retail locations around the world as well as their website on Thursday mornings in Europe and America, and on Saturday mornings in Japan. The Supreme brand is popular in China, Japan, Europe and the US. Supreme is owned by VF Corporation.

Supreme releases two collections each year. Instead of offering the entire line at once, the brand releases a few pieces online and in-store from the current season's collection every Thursday.

Supreme Quality - Material & Durability

Supreme have been a lot of controversies about the quality the brand is made of.  Is Supreme Clothing Good Material?  If you compare Supreme to most other brands of streetwear, you'll find that there is homogeneity to other companies that Supreme doesn't have. Supreme uses different manufacturing and supplier sites. But some of their products are manufactured in Canada and the US while others are made in China. 

From my own experienced and review of some other Supreme fans, it can be deduced that some of the brand's clothing is made of good materials while others are made of average quality materials. There are times you buy the clothing, and it feels thin to the extent you can almost see through the material, but there are the thick ones too. For example, the Supreme hoodie is made from a high-quality silk material, which implies that it is long lasting and quite durable. For the Supreme clothing, the stitches are appropriately aligned with no rough edges because they are well stitched by professional tailors. Additionally, the logo of the Supreme has an Eye-catching effect. Though it may have a dull look, the letters are stuck on the material to bring out that fashion sense from the clothing material.

Supreme is undoubtedly one of the most popular and iconic skate brands in the world. From celebrities and athletes to your neighbor, it seems like everyone from all walks of life has been sporting and supporting the brand for years. Supreme is preferred for its ability to stay ahead of the fashion curve and create products that define fashion. It is simple and straightforward. It has the entire“exclusive” and“limited edition”things going for it. They've done an amazing job of limiting quantities and under-producing to the demand. By ditching the ordinary supply-and-demand model, Supreme allowed the resale market to dictate prices.
