Keurig K-Supreme vs. Plus vs. SMART vs. Plus SMAR: Differences and Reviews 2024

Keurig K-Supreme vs. Plus vs. SMART vs. Plus SMAR: Differences and Reviews 2024

You don't have to go to a coffee shop to experience great coffee, many brands are now producing coffee machines that allow you to make coffee on demand in minutes at home or in the office. Keurig is probably the most impressive and broad brand when it comes to making coffee makers. Let’s take a look at Keurig K-Supreme vs. Keurig K-Supreme Plus vs. K-Supreme Smart vs. K-Supreme Plus Smart to see if they meet your needs. This can be tricky if you're looking for a coffee maker with features like useful features, stylish aesthetics, and a reasonable price. The options are endless, and unfortunately, when we compare 2024 Keurig models, the process can be confusing and overwhelming. So we thought we'd do the job for you!

What are the hottest Keurig coffee makers?

In the realm of convenient and flavorful coffee brewing, Keurig has established itself as a trusted brand.

With their innovative features and user-friendly designs, Keurig machines have become a staple in many homes and offices.

The Keurig K Supreme series are some of the popular models in their product line that offer a superior coffee experience.

Keurig creates five different versions of the brewing machine:

  • K-Supreme

  • K-Supreme Plus

  • K-Supreme Plus C

  • K-Supreme Smart

  • K-Supreme Plus Smart

Why is the Keurig K-Supreme series so popular?

The Keurig K-Supreme Series are some stylish portable coffee makers that fit most decors and can make fresh coffee in minutes.

The Keurig K-Supreme line of single-cup coffee makers represents the top of the range coffee makers from the creators of the K-Cup—with features like multi-stream technology, over-ice brew mode and multiple brew sizes all coming standard.

And their salient features are:

  • Multi-stream technology:

The Keurig Supreme is the first Keurig model to feature the new MultiStream Technology. What is this, you ask? Instead of punching one hole in the top of the K-Cup to inject hot water, this coffee machine punches five holes. The result is a more even saturation of the ground coffee in the K-Cup pod, which improves extraction and results in a coffee with more flavor and a richer aroma.

  • Over-ice brew mode:

When you select the Brew-Over-Ice (sometimes labeled just “Iced”) setting, the coffee maker starts the brewing process with hot water to extract maximum flavor. It then automatically switches to cool water to minimize ice melt. This keeps your coffee from tasting watered down.

Refreshing iced coffee has been growing in popularity in recent years, so it is nice to see Keurig keeping up with the trend.

  • Travel mug

If you have travel mugs 7″ or lower, you can brew directly into them with the Keurig K-Supreme and the Keurig K-Supreme Plus.

More - You can save up to $70 during the sale, and even better, you can get up to 8% cash back on Keurig.

Keurig K-Supreme vs. K-Supreme Plus vs. K-Supreme Smart vs. K-Supreme Plus Smart – What’s the Difference?

Here’s a recap of all the differences:

  • Brewing sizes: Keurig K-Supreme and K-Supreme SMART come in four brewing sizes, while Plus and Plus SMART come in five brewing sizes. Something I’ve noticed is that all of the machines are very good at measuring how much you selected. For example, if you want 8oz, you will get exactly 8oz, nothing more, nothing less.

  • Reservoir Capacity: Both Plus models have a larger reservoir that holds 78 ounces, while the K-Supreme and K-Supreme SMART have a 66-ounce reservoir.

  • Customization: K-Supreme has strong brew option, while K-Supreme Plus gives you three strength and three temperature settings. The two SMART models have 5 strength settings and 6 temperature settings. All models have Over Ice option.

  • Programmable Favorites: This feature is not available on the K-Supreme, but you get 3 user favorites on the Plus model and up to 10 user favorites on the 2 SMART models.

Then, the other main difference is about SMART!

What advanced features does Keurig SMART have?

WiFi connectivity:

If SMART is connected to Wi-Fi, the unique features you can access include:

  1. Manage your favorites

Store and manage your personal favorites directly on the Keurig app.

  2. Brew from anywhere

Brew from bed or anywhere else at the touch of a button.

  3. Personalized Recommendations

With My Brew Style, explore personalized beverage recommendations.

  4. Voice command

Control your K-Supreme Plus® SMART with simple voice commands through Alexa or Google Home.

Brew ID:

This feature is available only in the smart models and relies on WiFi connectivity to work.

  1. Technology platform:

BrewID™, considered by Keurig to be a next-generation technology platform, is designed to deliver perfectly customized, full-flavored coffee just the way people like it.

BrewID technology recognizes the specific brand and roast level of K-Cup® coffee pods and automatically customizes the brew settings based on the recommendations of the experts who created it.

  2. SMART Auto-Delivery:

BrewID helps to manage a consumer's pantry, with the ability to reorder K-Cup® pods based on their consumption so they don't run out.

K-Supreme vs. K-Supreme Plus vs. K-Supreme Smart vs. K-Supreme Plus Smart – Our top picks:

We’ve picked the Keurig Supreme Plus as our overall pick.

The Keurig K-Supreme is the entry-level model, so there aren't too many options and settings to worry about. A cool feature is that the water reservoir can be either on the left or on the backside. This is NOT possible on the Plus & Plus SMART.

The Supreme Plus includes a few extra features. One of the best features in the model is Programmable Favorites, which is a way to save individual preferences for up to three users. It will save preferred brew strength, temperature and size for each user.

Speaking of customization, this models offers 3 strength settings and 3 temperature settings, as well as Over Ice option. And for brew sizes, it starts from 4 oz and up to 12 oz. This coffee maker has a 78oz reservoir and is capable of back to back brewing.

The housing of the K-Supreme Plus is stainless steel so it has a more modern and sleek look.

In terms of value for money, we think the K-Supreme Plus is the overall better option.

The features that you get compared to the regular K-Supreme, in combination with the few extra pennies are worth the price.

We think the K-Supreme SMART & K-Supreme Plus SMART are only needed if you're a true tech and coffee geek, but the price jump is quite substantial.

Keurig K-Supreme vs. K- Supreme Plus

What is the difference between the Keurig K Supreme and K Supreme Plus?

  1. Removable Water Reservoir Position

The Keurig K-Supreme Plus has a removable water reservoir, but it cannot be switched to a different position on the machine. However, the K-Supreme’s water reservoir can be positioned at either the side or the back depending on your counter space and decor.

  2. Price

The Keurig K-Supreme is about 35% cheaper, and it's about $50 cheaper than the Keurig K-Supreme Plus.

  3. Brew Strength

While both the Keurig K-Supreme and the Keurig K-Supreme Plus both offer the option to brew a stronger cup of coffee, the Keurig K-Supreme Plus takes it two steps further by offering three strength options.

  4. Brew Temperature

The Keurig K-Supreme also has no temperature settings, while the Keurig K-Supreme Plus offers three different brewing temperature options.

If you are one of those people who love their brews really hot, the K-Supreme Plus is your best choice.

  5. Reservoir capacity

These coffee makers have a fairly large water tank, but the K-Supreme Plus has a larger water tank. It holds 78 ounces, compared to the K-Supreme’s 66 ounces.

  6. Serving Sizes

As far as brew sizes, both the Keurig Supreme and the KSupreme Plus offer 6, 8, 10 and 12 oz. brew sizes, however the Plus model also allows you to brew a smaller 4 ounce cup.

  7. Programmable Favorites

No problem living in a home with multiple coffee personalities, Keurig K-Supreme Plus has a favorite option for everyone. You can save up to three coffee preferences for easier brewing.

  8. Appearance and weight

The digital display on the K-Supreme Plus is not on the K-Supreme.

The K-Supreme comes in two tasteful options (black, grey), while the K-Supreme Plus features a premium stainless steel metallic look.

These coffee makers aren't heavy at all, and both are portable, but the 5.78-pound K-Supreme is significantly lighter than the 7.5-pound Supreme Plus.

Keurig K-Supreme Plus vs. K-Supreme Plus SMART

What is the difference between Keurig K-Supreme Plus and K-Supreme Plus SMART?

  1. BrewID technology

K -Supreme Plus SMART is a "smart" coffee machine. Unlike the K-Supreme Plus, the K-Supreme SMART version features what Keurig calls BrewID technology.

This is supposed to know which K-Cup pod you inserted into the machine and thus will automatically adjust the brewer’s settings to the most appropriate for that brew.

So whether you're using Peet's, Starbucks, Folgers, or any of your favorite K-cup pods, the brewer will instantly know what it is when you plug it in.

BrewID unlocks customized settings for the over 900 K-Cup® pod varieties available in the Keurig® system. Consumers can also put their own spin on perfection, by fine tuning it even more with an expanded range of temperature, strength and size settings.

The K-Supreme Plus® SMART brewer with BrewID is the first brewer to feature this technology.

  2. Strength and temperature settings

The other difference is that while the K Supreme Plus has 3 temperature settings and 3 strength settings, the K-Supreme Plus SMART model has 6 temperature settings and 5 brew strength settings.

  3. Programmable Favourites

Keurig K-Supreme Plus can save up to 3 coffee preferences, while K-Supreme Plus® SMART can save up to 10 coffee preferences.

Keurig - The main differences between smart and non-smart versions

BrewID technology

It’s a really nice feature that a lot of people like but it’s not necessary unless you’re very serious about coffee. It’s only available on the SMART version.

And of course, the brewer wouldn’t be ‘smart’ enough if it was not WiFi connected. Connecting your brewer will allow you to brew from anywhere, store and manage your recipes, receive personalized beverage recommendations and use voice commands using Alexa or Google Home. And since BrewID tracks your pod usage, you’ll get notified when you’re running low on pods. You can set up automatic ordering and deliveries so your new pods arrive before you’re out of them.

Temperature settings

Temperature settings are more important to some people.

Lower temperatures produce more prominent acidity and less bitterness, but also reduce body and sweetness. Higher temperatures help increase body and sweetness, but at the cost of introducing more bitterness and slightly reducing acidity.

The regular K-Supreme has 1 temperature setting, the Plus has 3 temperature settings, and the SMART has 6 temperature settings.

Brew temp options are expanded from three to six and they are now named instead of just numbered. They offer you the following options to chose from now:

  • Warm

  • Warmer

  • Hot

  • Hotter

  • X-Hot

  • Max Hot

Ranges between 187- 206 degrees.

Strength settings

The strength settings are used to control the water flow. The longer the water stays in contact with the coffee, the more flavor and aroma you will get.

The regular K-Supreme only comes with 1 strength setting, while the Plus comes with 3 and the SMART even with 5.

Brew strength options are expanded from three to five and they are now named options instead of just numbered. They offer you the following settings to choose from now:

  • Balanced

  • Rich

  • Robust

  • Strong

  • Intense

Brew Quality

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with the brewing quality in any of them. They will give a tasty drink every single time. This is mainly due to the new MultiStream Technology which gives you an incredible flavor and aroma.

Having control over your temperature and strength settings is a nice touch if you want to go for a more specific brew. We can’t forget the Iced coffee feature since it’s actually very nice to use on a hot day and tastes fantastic!

K-Supreme SMART vs. K-Supreme Plus SMART

What’s The Difference Between K-Supreme SMART and K-Supreme Plus SMART?

  1. Reservoir capacity

The water reservoir capacity on the Supreme Smart is 66 oz while it’s 78 oz on the Supreme Plus SMART.

  2. Serving Sizes

The K-Supreme SMART model allows for 4 brew cup sizes (6, 8, 10, and 12 ounces), while the KSupreme Plus SMART allows for all of these plus an extra 4 ounce brewing size option.

  3. Appearance

The design of the K-Supreme Smart does not have any stainless steel accents and it’s all plastic, unlike the Plus Smart version.

  4. Weight and dimensions

Finally, the dimensions of the two models are slightly different, with the K-Supreme SMART sizing up at a 12.2 inches tall, 7.9 inch wide, and weighing 5.8 pounds. The upgraded K-Supreme Plus SMART on the other hand measures in at 12.4 inches in height by 8.3 inches wide, with a heavier weight of just over 8 pounds.

What’s the Difference Between the Keurig K-Supreme Plus SPECIAL EDITION and the K-Supreme Plus?

The Supreme Plus Special Edition brewer model is a newer offering, typically sold at select retailers such as Costco.

The Keurig K-Supreme Special Edition model allows you to choose from among 5 different strengths and 5 temperature options, whereas the regular K-Supreme Plus coffee maker only allows you to select between 3 strength options and 3 temperature settings.

Apart from this difference, all other features appear to be identical.

The Bottom Line

These devices are very similar to each other, but vary greatly in price. That's why we chose K-Supreme Plus. You can tweak your brew with some clever settings, and you don't have to pay much more than a regular K-Supreme.

The Keurig K-Supreme Plus is the best model of the two because it has more features like the digital display, programmable favorites, adjustable temperature, and adjustable strength settings. The higher price is a small price to pay for these huge benefits.

We don't think the K-Supreme Plus SMART is worth buying unless you'll use all the connectivity features, which most people won't.

If you know you love a Keurig and are simply looking to upgrade your personal coffee machine, I highly recommend taking advantage of the deals the brand offers on the coffee machine itself. You can save up to $70 during the sale, and even better, you can get up to 8% cash back on Keurig.
