  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation review

Skin Type: Combination and Oily

Coverage: Full

Finish:  Matte

Formulation:  Liquid

SPF: SPF 15

Official Price: $39

Tarte Amazonian Clay is an instant full coverage foundation infused with the best ingredients nature has to offer. It has a comfortable and non-caking formula powered by Amazonian clay which is the nature's most perfect ingredient for better, longer, truer wear.  It's vegan, oil-free coverage that lasts up to 12 hours.

One of the best things about this foundation is that it balances your skin.  In addition to Amazonian clay, it contains vitamin E and mineral pigments that also acts as a soothing emollient and antioxidant and can soothe and soften skin. It repairs your skin's moisture barrier and your skin will look smooth, even & hydrated and have fewer skin issues.

The texture is a lightweight mousse. It glides on like silk but wears like iron. It blends easily and in 1 to 2 layers you can achieve full coverage on your skin. It can cover dark spots, redness & all imperfections and smooths over the appearance of pores & fine lines.

They have 30+ shades available. The foundation really does last the 12 hours that it claims, even without a primer or setting spray and it lasts even longer with both. It controls oil without much creasing. I blot at lunch, apply a little powder and it looks great for the rest of the day.

  • Tarte Face Tape Foundation review

Skin Type: Dry, Normal, Combination, Oily

Coverage: Full

Finish: Matte

Formulation: Liquid

Official Price: $39

This skin-smoothing foundation is inspired by the Tarte's iconic Shape Tape Concealer. It's a full-coverage foundation helps mattify, hydrate, and brighten your appearance.

This foundation is definitely full coverage but actually has a “natural” look to it. The transferproof, waterproof and sweatproof formula keeps you flawless through work and play, delivering long-wearing coverage with a natural matte finish. It's matte, but not dry matte. Skin-loving ingredients such as snow mushroom extract, apple fruit extract and hyaluronic acid keep your complexion feeling healthy and hydrated. Tape technology™ helps smooth texture & blur the appearance of pores, fine lines & wrinkles.

Fifty shades with five undertones offer a perfect match for every skin tone. It also comes in the same five undertones - beige (pink), sand (yellow), neutral, honey (peach), and golden - as the Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation. Tarte's founder Kelly said she based the shade selection on real people and the comments she saw on social media. She also asked makeup artists who work with Tarte which shades they were missing when they were out in the field.

  • Tarte Shape Tape Foundation review

Skin Type: All Skin

Coverage: Full

Finish:  Matte

Formulation: Liquid

Official Price: None

In 2018, Tarte launched Shape Tape Foundation, modeled after the ever-so-popular concealer. 2019, the brand replaced it with the new and improved Face Tape. Tarte Shape Tape Foundation had two different formulas- hydrating and matte.

The hydrating formula is formulated with various good-for-your-skin ingredients like hyaluronic acid, barley extract, vitamin C, and the brand's trademark Amazonian clay.  As for the consistency, it's bouncy and gel-like in order to stay comfortable and radiant for 12 full hours. When you first apply it, you may notice a cooling and soothing effect.

The brand is even launching a special makeup tool - the Shaper Contouring Sponge, and it's been paired with this hydrating makeup to provide seamless coverage.

Next is the matte formula, which is vegan, high-coverage, waterproof, and quick-setting. In fact, it sets so quickly that a brand rep recommended applying it to your face in specific portions, blending out, and then moving on. This way it won't dry too thickly in one area of your face. All of them are infused with smoothing vitamin E and mineral pigments for a super-matte and airbrushed finish. Oh, and the tool that's paired with the matte formula is called the Double Duty Paddle Brush, a dense oval brush that can hug the contours of your face for smooth application.

Both formulas includes 15 different shades, making 30 new foundations in total. While 15 may seem pretty standard, it doesn't look like there is too large of a shade range, especially for darker skin tones, which is a disappointment.

  • Conclusion

Tarte Amazonian Clay vs. Face Tape vs. Shape Tape Foundation: Which is Best for You?

Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation

It truly feels light. It's vegan and oil-free with the identical tender matte end that actually doesn’t cake up. The coverage is pretty good. It's the best year-round Tarte foundation for oily skin, but it's not good for dry skin. If you do want it, you need something more hydrating.

Tarte Face Tape Foundation

The Face Tape Foundation is about as close as you're going to get the Shape Tape Concealer in foundation form. It's transferproof, waterproof and sweatproof formula delivering long-wearing coverage with a natural matte finish.  It's good for all skin.

Unlike the Shape Tape Foundation, the Face Tape Foundation comes in only one formula but double the amount of shades To make up for the lacking shade range. And with so many shades, Tarte created a new system that mixes numbers and undertone letters to make it easier to find your match.

Tarte Shape Tape Foundation

In 2018 when the brand launched the highly anticipated Shape Tape Foundation with a seriously lacking shade range. Tarte Shape Tape Foundation had two different formulas- hydrating and matte.  The matte is more suitable for oily skin, and the hydrating is for dry skin.
