AYANEO AIR vs. AIR Pro vs. AIR Plus

Coming from the boxy form of the original Ayaneo or the “Switch on Steroids” that was the Ayaneo Next, the Air is altogether more refined. The design is all about being thin and light, gentle contours instead of hard angles, and a look that takes more than a little inspiration from the Switch Lite. It’s a gaming PC you can carry in your pocket, and that’s not something you can say about most of its competitors.

AYANEO AIR Plus continues AYANEO AIR Design, providing a fully upgraded Plus experience. You can enjoy bigger screen, stronger cooling system, longer battery life and amazing sound effect.

AYANEO AIR vs. AIR Pro vs. AIR Plus: Design

The Air Pro is nearly identical in size to the Air and Air Lite. In fact, the only difference is that the Pro is 3.6mm thicker to accommodate its more powerful CPU. Compare that to the Ayaneo Next, which dwarfs the Air Pro, despite having less powerful hardware and only being a few months older.

The Ayaneo Air/Air Pro screen has received a facelift, shrinking to 5.5 inches to fit the new design and bumping the number of pixels to 1080p, as opposed to the Next’s 800p resolution. Aya has also upgraded the panel from the usual IPS to a gorgeous, color-rich AMOLED display. Blacks are darker than they’ve ever been, which makes the screen’s vivid colors and enhanced dynamic range pop. The screen also supports five-point touch, so you can tap, click, and drag in games and when using it as a normal PC.

AYANEO AIR was developed with thin & light craftsmanship, combining and compressing about 3500 components, AYANEO builds a Windows gaming handheld with the high performance as a laptop through a difficult stacking design. It is streamline design without screws on the back. There are only 2 screws in the visible area of the main body, completing the incredible engineering marvel of Windows gaming handhelds. Go beyond the previous gaming handheld design to achieve an stunning touch feeling of thin & light.

Curve design makes it elegant and spiritual and fully fits the angle of control. Based on the advantages of thin & light body, as well as a deep understanding of ergonomics, it is not a burden to users playing for long time, and easy to grip not worring about falling Tailor-made new UV technology, resistant to dirt, scratches and fingerprints, bringing your AIRTouch.

The thin & light design allows every players to take it along easily. Whether you are in a coffee shop, subway station, or on the seaside, you can play games freely. More than that, players can also play multiplayer online games with family members and friends through connecting external devices, and enjoy instant sharing!

The AyaNeo Air Plus opts for a 6-inch touch display compared to the 5.5-incher on the AyaNeo Air. It’s crisp with a 1080p native resolution and can hit 400 nits of peak brightness. It’s vibrant with good color gamut coverage up to 120% of the sRGB color space and has good viewing angles. It looks great, but when it comes to contrast, it pales in comparison to the inky blacks of the original Air’s AMOLED screen. The Plus’s screen suffers from the same low, 1000:1 contrast as other IPS panels where blacks can sometimes appear dark grey. It’s a downgrade from OLED but is still a very good display in its own right.

Other than the screen, the rest of the external design is very similar to the original Ayaneo Air or Switch Lite. The joysticks are offset and, though short, have an adequate range of movement and resistance for accurate aiming. The ABXY buttons and D-pad both offer good tactility and don’t feel mushy. A pair of bumpers and triggers flank each shoulder, as well as a combination fingerprint reader/power button and volume rocker on the top.

The joysticks and triggers both use magnetic Hall Effect sensors and help set the Air Plus apart from competing handheld gaming PCs. Hall Effect sensors use magnetic fields rather than mechanical contacts to determine the depth and direction of a press. They’re much more durable over time and aren’t prone to stick drift like standard potentiometers, and feel smoother to engage with.

Unlike the Steam Deck, the Ayaneo Air is a full-fledged Windows 11 gaming PC, and it features multiple additional inputs to make that usable without a physical mouse and keyboard. On the right side is a large AYA button engraved with the company’s logo. Tapping it summons a quick menu with your most needed settings (like TDP, screen brightness, and volume). Holding it down launches the full AyaSpace customization suite with more advanced options.
