Editor's review: CDKeys vs. Green Man Gaming vs. Fanatical - Which Reigns Supreme?

My number one choice is CDKeys!

(Visit cdkeys.com and get low-priced games - and get up to 5% Cash Back, too!)

❤️ As an avid gamer, I've spent countless hours exploring various game key websites, but CDKeys has truly won me over.

Let's start with the prices. It's insane how much you can save. Take "Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty" for example. I was waiting for its release, checking prices everywhere. When I landed on CDKeys, I was shocked. It was a whopping 35% cheaper than on the official store. That money I saved? I used it to buy some in - game DLCs I would've otherwise passed on.

Reliability is super important when buying game keys, and CDKeys doesn't disappoint. They're an authorized digital retailer, getting keys directly from publishers, distributors, or developers. With a Trustpilot rating of 4.7 out of 5 from around 80,000 reviewers, you know you can trust them.

The instant key delivery is another aspect that has won me over. I remember when "Elden Ring" launched. I was so hyped to explore the Lands Between. I bought the key on CDKeys, and as soon as I completed the purchase, bam! The key was in my account within seconds. No more waiting around like on some other platforms. I redeemed it on Steam right away and started slaying bosses without any delay.

I play all kinds of games, from intense shooters to relaxing sims. CDKeys has an amazing library that caters to all my gaming needs. Whether I want to play "Valorant" on PC or "Stardew Valley" on my Nintendo Switch, they've got the keys. Their console game selection for PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch is top - notch.

The interface is super user - friendly, and CDKeys makes it so easy to find what I want. The search bar at the top is really handy. If I'm in the mood for a game like "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II", I just type it in, and there it is. The product pages are full of useful info too, like system requirements, gameplay overviews, and of course, the price. And the checkout process? A breeze. They have multiple payment options. You can use major debit and credit cards, they're a PayPal partner, and they even accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies. So, everyone can pay the way they like.

CDKeys is a global platform. Wherever you are, in the US, UK, Australia, or anywhere else, you can access their massive game key library and great deals.

And here's an extra treat. CDKeys partners with Extrabux.com, and you can get up to 5% cash back. It's like getting an extra discount on top of their already great prices.

CDKeys vs. Green Man Gaming vs. Fanatical: A Comprehensive Review

#1. Pricing and Discounts

►    CDKeys:

CDKeys has earned a reputation for offering competitive prices on a wide range of games. During major gaming events like Black Friday or holiday seasons, gamers can score some truly remarkable deals. A user on Reddit shared, "I got 'Cyberpunk 2077' on CDKeys for a whopping 40% off during a Black Friday sale. It was an amazing deal, and I couldn't resist." This sentiment is echoed by many gamers who have managed to snag their favorite games at reduced prices on CDKeys.

They also frequently have exclusive offers on game subscriptions, such as the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which can be purchased at a significantly reduced price compared to the official Microsoft store.

However, not all is rosy. The availability of these deep discounts can be inconsistent. Niche or less - popular titles, especially indie games, often don't see the same level of price cuts. One user lamented, "I've been eyeing a particular indie game on CDKeys for ages, but it rarely goes on sale. It feels like only the big - name mainstream games get the good deals regularly."

It offers up to 5% cash back. www.cdkeys.com/

►    Green Man Gaming:

Green Man Gaming stands out with its innovative loyalty - based discount system. Their XP system rewards users for every purchase they make. As gamers level up, they unlock additional discounts, which can range from a permanent 5% to as much as 10% off on future purchases. A long - time user on Reddit expressed their delight, saying, "I love Green Man Gaming's XP system. After buying a few games, the discounts really start to add up. I recently bought 'Forbidden West' on PC with an 18% discount thanks to my XP - earned savings."

In addition to the loyalty program, Green Man Gaming runs regular sales events. These sales cover a vast array of games across different genres and platforms. Themed sales like the "Summer Sale" or "New Releases Sale" offer gamers the opportunity to pick up both new and classic titles at reduced prices. Newsletter subscribers are also treated to exclusive discount codes from time to time.

However, some users have noted that the base prices of certain games on Green Man Gaming might be slightly higher compared to CDKeys or Fanatical, even before factoring in the discounts. A user on a gaming forum compared prices and found, "I compared the prices of a few games I wanted on all three platforms, and in some cases, Green Man Gaming had the highest starting price, although their discounts were good." This highlights the importance of doing a thorough price comparison before making a purchase.

Oh, and did I mention it offers up to 5% cash back?

►    Fanatical:

Fanatical is well - known for its game bundles, which offer excellent value for money. Their "Gaming Essentials Bundle," for example, might include five different games with a total discount of up to 70% off the combined retail price. Many users have discovered new favorite indie games through these bundles. One user shared, "I found some of my all - time favorite indie games through Fanatical's bundles. Not only did I get a great deal, but I also got to try out games I never would have known about otherwise."

The platform also runs promotions on individual games during special events. When "Monster Hunter Wilds" was about to be released, Fanatical offered an 18% discount on all its editions.

However, the quality and value of Fanatical's bundles can be inconsistent. Some users have been disappointed to find that they already owned one or more of the games in a bundle they purchased, reducing the overall value. A user on a review site commented, "I bought a bundle on Fanatical, thinking it was a great deal, but it turned out that two of the games in the bundle were ones I already had. It was a letdown."

It offers up to 6% cash back. www.fanatical.com/

#2. Game Selection

►    CDKeys:

CDKeys offers a diverse range of games across various genres and platforms, from high - octane action - shooters like "Call of Duty" to immersive role - playing games like "The Elder Scrolls." It caters to PC, consoles like PlayStation and Xbox, and even some handheld devices. During the release of highly anticipated titles like "Final Fantasy XVI," users found it easy to obtain game keys from CDKeys. They also have a decent range of DLCs for popular games, allowing players to enhance their gaming experience.

However, compared to some of its competitors, CDKeys' game library might seem a bit more limited, especially when it comes to indie games. A Reddit user noted, "CDKeys has a good selection, but I've noticed that they don't always have the latest indie releases that I'm looking for. It's great for mainstream games, though."

►    Green Man Gaming:

Green Man Gaming boasts an impressive library of over 9,000 games from 1,350 publishers. Whether you're into the latest AAA blockbusters like "Monster Hunter Wilds" or prefer to explore the world of indie games, they have you covered. It supports multiple operating systems, including PC, Mac, and console games, making it accessible to a broad range of gamers.

Users have praised its extensive selection. One user, who has been using the platform for years, said, "I'm constantly amazed at the variety of games they have. I can find both the big - name titles and those hidden indie gems that I love discovering." The platform also has a knack for staying on top of the latest releases. As soon as a new game hits the market, there's a high probability it will be available on Green Man Gaming, often with exclusive editions or pre - order bonuses.

►    Fanatical:

Fanatical offers a catalog of more than 6,000 games from over 900 game developers and publishers. Their game selection is carefully curated, and they have a strong focus on indie games. A user on a gaming forum said, "I've found some of my favorite games on Fanatical. They have this ability to put together bundles with games that I never knew existed but ended up loving."

However, if you're looking for a very specific mainstream game, there's a slightly higher chance you might not find it compared to Green Man Gaming and CDKeys. But for those open to exploring new and different gaming experiences, Fanatical can be a goldmine.

#3. Platform Reliability and Trustworthiness

►    CDKeys:

CDKeys has been in the business for a while and has established partnerships with numerous game publishers and developers, giving users some assurance of the authenticity of the keys they sell. Many users have reported smooth transactions. A Reddit user shared, "I've bought several games from CDKeys over the years, and I've never had an issue with the keys not working. I recently got 'Elden Ring' for a great price, and the key activated on Steam without a hitch."

However, there have been instances of concern. Some users have received keys that were already redeemed or didn't work at all. One user on a gaming forum recounted, "I bought a game key from CDKeys, and when I tried to activate it, I got an error message saying the key had already been used. It took a long time to get a response from their customer support, and they only offered me a replacement key after a lot of back - and - forth." In terms of security, CDKeys uses standard encryption methods.

►    Green Man Gaming:

After a controversy in 2015 regarding key sources, Green Man Gaming has become extremely transparent. They clearly disclose where each key comes from, which has been a major selling point for users. A Reddit user commented, "I appreciate how Green Man Gaming is upfront about the key sources. It makes me feel more confident in my purchases, knowing that they are legitimate."

The platform has a strict auditing process to ensure key legitimacy and direct partnerships with many publishers. In terms of customer support, they are generally responsive. If a user encounters a key issue, the support team is usually quick to resolve it, and they have a fair refund policy for non - downloaded or non - activated games. However, in the past, there have been a few isolated cases of key delivery delays, especially for highly anticipated game releases.

►    Fanatical:

Fanatical has a strong reputation for being legitimate. They have direct relationships with over 900 game developers and publishers, ensuring the keys they sell are official. Users have praised the authenticity of their keys. A user on a gaming review site said, "I've been using Fanatical for a while, and I've never had a problem with the keys being fake or not working. They always deliver what they promise."

The platform also has a clear website that displays region restrictions upfront. Their payment systems are secure, and they offer a variety of payment options, including popular digital wallets like PayPal, adding an extra layer of security for users.

#4. User Experience and Interface

►    CDKeys:

CDKeys has a user - friendly interface with a clean layout. The prominent search bar at the top makes it easy to find specific games, and the clearly defined categories for different platforms and genres simplify browsing. A Reddit user commended, "CDKeys' website is so easy to use. I can quickly find the game I want, whether it's a new release or an old classic. The search function works like a charm, and I don't have to waste time clicking through multiple pages to find what I need."

The product pages provide essential information, and the checkout process is relatively seamless, with multiple payment options available. However, some users have noted that payment options might be limited in certain regions. The platform also allows users to track their orders, and key delivery is often quick, much to the delight of eager gamers.

►    Green Man Gaming:

Green Man Gaming offers a more feature - rich interface compared to CDKeys. The homepage is well - organized, with sections highlighting new releases, best sellers, ongoing deals, and the platform's loyalty program benefits. The loyalty program, with its XP system, is prominently displayed on the account page, adding an engaging element to the user experience. A long - time user on Reddit said, "I love how Green Man Gaming's interface shows me how close I am to leveling up in their XP system. It makes me more motivated to keep buying games from them, and the discounts I get as a result are really nice."

The search and filtering options on Green Man Gaming are robust, allowing users to narrow down their game selection based on multiple criteria, such as platform, genre, price range, and publisher. The product pages are detailed, often including user reviews, screenshots, and trailers, giving potential buyers a better understanding of the game. The platform supports multiple languages and has a well - designed mobile app for on - the - go gaming purchases. However, some new users have found the interface a bit overwhelming at first due to the abundance of features and information.

►    Fanatical:

Fanatical's interface is designed to be intuitive, with a focus on presenting a curated selection of games. The homepage showcases featured games, exclusive bundles, and new arrivals in an eye - catching way. Users have praised its simplicity and elegance. A user on a gaming forum said, "Fanatical's website is a breath of fresh air. It's not overly complicated, and I can quickly find interesting games to buy. The way they display their bundles is really appealing, and it makes me want to explore more."

The game listings are detailed, and the search and sorting options are useful. However, some users have noted that the lack of more advanced filtering options on certain pages can make it challenging to find very specific games in a large list. The checkout process is user - friendly, and they offer multiple payment methods.

#5. Customer Service

►    CDKeys:

CDKeys has a customer support system, but user experiences vary widely. Some users have had positive interactions. A Reddit user shared, "I had an issue with a game key not working, and I reached out to CDKeys' customer service. They got back to me within a few hours and provided a replacement key right away. I was really impressed with how quickly they resolved the problem."

However, many users have complained about long response times, especially during peak sales periods. A user on a gaming forum said, "I bought a game during a Black Friday sale, and the key didn't work. I contacted customer service, but it took them almost two days to get back to me. By then, I was really frustrated." The quality of support can also be inconsistent, with some users receiving generic responses.

►    Green Man Gaming:

Green Man Gaming has a reputation for being responsive to customer inquiries. Their customer service team is often praised for being helpful and knowledgeable. A user on Reddit had a question about a pre - order bonus for a game on Green Man Gaming and shared, "I reached out to their customer service, and they not only answered my question promptly but also provided additional information about the game's release date and other related details. It was a great experience."

The platform has multiple contact channels, with live chat being particularly convenient. Many users have reported quick issue resolution through live chat. They also have a fair refund policy, and in case of key issues, the support team is quick to investigate and provide solutions. However, during extremely busy times, the live chat queue can be long.

►    Fanatical:

Fanatical has a professional customer service team available via email or live chat. Response times are generally fairly prompt. A user on a gaming review site received a response within a few hours when they had a question about a game bundle.

However, the refund process can be a bit restrictive, as they generally don't offer refunds once a key has been sent, unless it's defective. Some users have also reported receiving conflicting information from different customer service representatives, which can complicate problem - solving.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, each of these platforms - CDKeys, Green Man Gaming, and Fanatical - has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. Your choice between them should depend on your priorities. If you're looking for the best deals and don't mind inconsistent discounts and a more mainstream - focused game selection, CDKeys might be a good option. Green Man Gaming is great for those who value a vast game library, loyalty rewards, and responsive customer service, even if the base prices might be a bit higher in some cases. Fanatical is ideal for gamers who want to discover unique and indie games through its curated bundles, although the bundle value and refund policy might be areas of concern.
