The protruding rectangular waffles provide extra traction.Vomero 16 is so durable that it will take a couple runs for you to notice the tiniest bit of wear. 

Invincible 3 - The redesign of this shoe starts with the outsole, which is now a two-piece construction. It has small nubs on the bottom which provide decent traction.The outsole of the Invincible Run uses soft, flexible rubber which is less durable than the Pegasus’s outsole rubber but it has more flexibility. The entire midsole is covered in this soft rubber.Flexibility is better in the Invincible Run than the Pegasus because of its softer outsole and the absence of a Zoom Air unit in the forefoot.

Winflo 10 - The outsole is pretty much the same as the Winflo 9. It’s made from rubber and has a waffle-like pattern that covers the entire bottom of the shoe. It provides reliable traction no matter the condition.

2. Midsole

Nike Pegasus 40 - Like all of the versions of the Nike Pegasus since the Nike Pegasus 37, the midsole of the Nike Pegasus 40 contains Nike’s React midsole foam. The shoe has two Zoom Air units — one in the forefoot, and one in the heel of the shoe. Underfoot, this leads to a bouncy, responsive ride. The React foam of the Pegasus is more durable than EVA foam so the Pegasus will not get a lot firmer over time.

Vomero 16 - The midsole remains almost identical to that of the previous model. It features Nike’s super foam, ZoomX , complete with a Zoom Air pocket under the forefoot which provides significantly more energy return than Nike’s ordinary-feeling React foam.I found the Vomero 16 very stable because in the midsole, the softer ZoomX core is surrounded by firmer EVA foam so your foot is supported by the EVA outer rim.

Invincible 3 - The midsole of the Invincible Run is made of Nike’s most advanced midsole foam which is Pebax-based ZoomX. ZoomX is super soft and super bouncy. It’s also lighter than most midsole foams which is why it’s considered a super foam.Flexibility is better in the Invincible Run than the Pegasus because of its softer outsole and the absence of a Zoom Air unit in the forefoot.

Winflo 10 - The midsole of the Nike Winflo 10 is made of a full length Air unit and Cushlon foam, both branded on the shoe. These two combined give you a soft landing with minimal impact.You will also notice how this soft foam works with the Nike Air cushioning to give you a springy pop with each step.It’s a very stable shoe that offers fantastic support. Nike states that “the more supportive the shoe, the more stability it can give your natural stride.

3. Upper

Nike Pegasus 40 - The main changes Nike made to the Pegasus 40 are all in the upper, which is a single layer of mesh with generous padding around the heel and tongue to improve step-in comfort. Unlike the Pegasus 39, Nike has returned to a more traditional lacing system — with the older shoe the laces looped through the “Flywire technology” loops, that wrapped around the foot to keep it in place.There’s also a decent amount of padding around the tongue and the collar of the shoe to alleviate any rubbing or hotspots. The Pegasus 40 now also has a small, thin reflective stripe on the back of the heel which is always a welcome addition.

Vomero 16 - The upper of the Vomero has traditionally been a plush, slipper-like, luxurious foot experience and the Vomero 16 returns with one of the most comfortable Vomero uppers in the history of the series. The Vomero 16’s tongue is generously filled with foam and covered in a soft, velvety material. It's also attached to an inner sleeve so there's no tongue slide during runs.The mesh is quite airy and despite the thick tongue material, it was not sweaty even on the hottest days.

Invincible 3 - The upper of the Invincible run 3 is made of Flyknit which has a bit of stretch to it.The FlyKnit material on the top appears to be thinner and possibly more breathable than the tightly woven previous versions.The tongue is thick and padded and it is also not sleeved but no tongue slide occurs. It has more padding than the upper of the Pegasus 40 but overall foot lockdown is below average.

Winflo 10 - The upper of the Nike Winflo 10 is seamless and made of a re-engineered mesh that has different densities for enhanced breathability. There are no overlays so you will not have any trouble with rubbing. One of the biggest improvements in the Winflo 10 is the toe box area. You have plenty of room but they hug your foot in just the right places.The tongue is connected to the inside of the upper and is very padded. They are your typical standard shoelace.

4. Performance

Nike Pegasus 40 - With its comfortable, cushioned design, the Pegasus 40 is ideal for covering many miles in preparation for a marathon or half marathon.Also, it’s relatively versatile and lends itself equally well to fast running tempo or fartlek sessions. It may also be suitable for interval training, but more experienced athletes will undoubtedly prefer another dedicated model.These are still an excellent running shoe for beginners, as they’re durable and have a lot of versatility thanks to that React foam and Zoom Air units. Faster runners will probably want to save them for easy runs. 

Vomero 16 - The Nike Air Zoom Vomero 16 is a great option for runners who want a lightweight and responsive shoe. The Zoom Air unit in the midsole provides excellent cushioning, and the midfoot cage gives additional support. The shoe also has a rubber outsole for durability and a foam midsole for extra cushioning. Tempo paces below 5 minutes per kilometre were easy to hold despite how heavy and cumbersome the Vomero 16 looks.The upper felt much more comfortable than the Vomero 15’s upper and the overall ride experience was better than its predecessor even though the updates are minimal.

Invincible 3 - If you previously found the Invincible Run too soft and unstable, I think you’ll be very happy with this new version which has a firmer, more controlled ride due to the extra strobel lasting underneath the insole. It also has a stiffer forefoot so it feels slightly more snappy.This is an ultra cushioned shoe, where the entire midsole is one solid chunk of foam. If you’ve never worn an Invincible, it will probably feel like nothing you’ve ever run in. The shape of the shoe also give a slight feeling of running down hill. The shoes are springy and responsive.

Winflo 10 - The Pegasus excel in a variety of runs. They have a great balance of cushioning and tight-sprung responsiveness. The Zoom Air units prevent the midsoles from bottoming out and add some pop off the ground.Stability is better in the Winflo due to the midsole of the Pegasus being softer and more squishy than that of the Winflo.

5. Sizing and Fit

Nike Pegasus 40 -  The Pegasus 40 fit us well in our normal size, and is reasonably spacious so should work well for those with wide feet. If you need more room, the Pegasus 40 is also available in a wide version.Comfort is immediate when you put these running shoes on. The lockdown is effective, with a precise fit, while the sole encapsulates the foot perfectly, especially in the middle of the arch.

Vomero 16 - The fit of the Vomero 16 is true to size. It has a spacious midfoot and toe box with plenty of toe splay room. When it comes to fit, the Vomero 15 was a half size too large and you needed to size down but with the thicker tongue of the 16, your entire foot is pushed backwards so the upper is less roomy and the fit is true to size.

Invincible 3 - Nike ZoomX Invincible is true to size. The Invincible Run 3 has a less roomy fit than the previous versions and you don’t need to size down anymore. It has a narrow midfoot so it’s not suitable for wide feet but it has a normal-width forefoot and toe-box.

Winflo 10 - They fit true to size with no need to break them in, altho they tend to feel even better after a few runs.They are very lightweight and feel very comfortable from the get go. Nike added more padding in the heel area and the toebox was redesigned for a better fit and that can be felt immediately. The biggest change is the revamped toe box. It’s made to provide better a better fit.
