Insta360 Go 2 is the second generation action camera of Insta360’s smallest action camera series. The biggest upgrade over the original Insta360 Go is the updated charging case. Buttons and a mini mode screen transform the user experience, allowing you to deploy the case as a remote control. It’s dubbed the world’s smallest action camera that’s designed for quick and easy recording.  You can clip to your clothing, snap to a magnetic pendant around your neck, prop up on our own desk in its own holder, stick to a car dash or window... and more. Despite its dinky build, the Go 2 can capture excellent 1440p video at 50fps, with good detail and decent dynamic range.

What's more, the ultra-portable Go 2 benefits from satin-smooth FlowState stabilisation, which does an immaculate job of eradicating bumps from footage. In addition, it’s fully waterproof to 4m. Battery life is limited to 30 minutes without the case, or 150 with it. There’s no display on the device itself, but the pocketable charging stand adds a status readout, as well as doubling up as a self-contained selfie stand. It also features two buttons, although it’s much easier to fire up the Insta360 app for wireless control from your smartphone.  In a word, it's not an action camera in the same sense as DJI Action 2 and GoPro HERO10, but its tiny size means it can film things you might never have attempted before.

PROSCONS

Absolutely tiny

No display for framing
Easy one-button operationNo 4K video
HDR and image stabilizationOnly waterproof to 4m

| #2  DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo 4K Waterproof Action Camera

Google Users Rating: 4.5/5

Drone and gimbal manufacturer DJI reimagined its Osmo Action camera for its second iteration, rebranded as DJI Action 2. This is an action camera that features a modular body design. It has one of the most compact bodies in the market and weighs only 56 grams making it extremely portable. The new Action 2 puts even more choice in the user’s hands, coming as a tiny 39x39mm square camera core which can be operated alone or attached (by a magnetic clip) to other units which offer more connectivity, battery life and a front-facing screen. The camera has a 1 / 1.7” sensor and RockSteady 2.0 and HorizonSteady image stabilization. Able to shoot video at up to 4K, the DJI Action 2 can’t climb as high as the GoPro Hero 10 Black when it comes to resolution. But what it lacks in pixels, it makes up for in horizon leveling – or as DJI calls it, Horizon Steady.

The upgrade to RockSteady, DJI’s image stabilization bests GoPro’s 45-degree leveling by allowing virtually 180-degree tilts without affecting the image orientation. It only works at 1080p and 2.7k, but it’s still a handy party trick that’s practically useful for anyone on a boat tilting from side to side.  Video quality is fine in bright environments. The camera leans towards down-playing saturation, which can result in muddy looking footage, especially in low light. The Action 2’s battery life is decent when matched with a power module, but the standalone cube probably won’t make it through more than half a day of occasional clip shooting. In addition, it overheated a fair bit, with recording capped at roughly five minutes at high resolutions as a result. The main unit is waterproof to 10m, its modules aren't water-resistant without a case. But it’s a fraction of the size of the Hero 10 Black, so could be perfect for anyone who wants the most diminutive action camera around.

PROSCONS
Premium, smart modular designUninspiring low-light performance
Tiny, go-anywhere form factorExtra modules aren't waterproof
Magnetic mount and snap-on accessoriesNot cheap
Dual touchscreen interface
Effective digital stabilization
Up to 4K120 video and 12MP photos

| #3  GoPro HERO10 Black Action Camera

Google Users Rating: 4.3/5

The GoPro HERO10 Black is the best action camera you can get. It is very light, weighing only 153g and has a removable lens cover.Though looking identical to the Hero9 Black in almost every way, the Hero10 Black is nevertheless a significant upgrade. That’s all down to its use of the all-new GP2 processor, which powers both a speedy user interface, doubles the frame rates and fuels the best image stabilization tech yet. Upgraded to incredible 23MP photos and 5.3K video resolution at 60fps, HERO10 offers double the frame rate for amazingly smooth motion. Plus, there’s 8x slo-mo at 2.7K and you can pause videos and grab 15.8MP still photos from 5.3K video that look amazing. It also performs better in poor light conditions for example during dusk, sunset or while in a forest.

You can also not underestimate the usefulness of  GoPro HERO 10 Black’s new HyperSmooth 4.0 video stabilization – in all modes. With the upgraded image stabilization, you can now tilt the camera as much as 45 degrees and it will still smooth things out for you.   In addition, the GoPro Hero 10 Black also has five different digital lens simulation modes to achieve different fields of view.  It also adds a nifty cable for super-quick camera-to-app content transfer and auto-upload of videos and photos to the cloud while it recharges. The GoPro HERO10 Black is also waterproof to an advertised depth of 33 feet and has a front-facing screen that lets you monitor yourself in Live View while recording. But its battery life is unremarkable. It can sometimes overheat and shut down when recording continuously for longer periods.  Despite that, however, GoPro HERO 10 is one of the best action cameras, thanks to its wide range of frame rate options, durable build quality, and stabilization performance.

Insta360 GO 2 vs. DJI Action 2 vs. GoPro HERO10 Side by Side Comparison

Design

The Insta360 Go 2 features a curved capsule-like design that is no bigger than a normal USB Pendrive. It weight only 26.5 grams making it extremely lightweight. The tiny plastic body house a lens in the front along with a LED light and a button to start or stop the video recordings. It comes along with a magnetic pendant that you can wear inside your clothing which will, in turn, allow you to stick it on your clothing without any issues. It also has a charging case that looks similar to TWS earbud charging cases we easily get to see nowadays. The case does more than just charge the camera. It can be used as a controller for your camera and also act as a mini tripod stand. This case also has a small monochrome display that can be used to change modes, check the battery levels, access settings, and more.

The DJI Action 2 has a design that is both innovative and compact at the same time. This is a cube-shaped action camera and has a modular body design but it takes it to a whole another level as it can work without any other modules. The main camera module has an inbuilt 32 GB inbuilt storage, a 580 mAh battery, and a 1.7-inch OLED touchscreen which allows it to go without any other accessories attached. Although the main camera module has no ports at all so you need to attach it to the touch screen or the power module to charge it up. All these parts are magnetically connected to each other with two clips to ensure it stays at their place.

The GoPros are well known for their boxy design which highly influences the whole action camera market. It weight about 153 grams and features a hard plastic body with a button to record on the top and one on the left to turn it on/off and change modes. It has a flap on the right which can be opened up to reveal the battery compartment. The new setup houses a 2.27-inch main LCD touchscreen with a 1.4-inch LCD display panel on the front.

Camera & Features

The Insta360 Go 2 houses a 1/2.3 inch camera sensor and can shoot videos at a resolution of 1440P at 30 FPS. Although it does not stand against DJI Action 2 and GoPro HERO10, it surely is impressive for a camera of this size. It can also shoot images at a max resolution of 9MP. The Insta360 Go 2 has modes like Video mode, Pro Video mode, Photo mode, HDR video mode, Timeshift, Timelapse, and Slow Motion which comes in very handy. The camera has an inbuilt storage of 32GB as there are no external memory slots on the camera.

The DJI Action 2 has a 12MP camera sensor that is capable enough to record 4K videos @ 120 FPS. The camera has features like Time Lapse, Slow Motion, and Horizon Steady. The camera features in-built Wifi and Bluetooth for connectivity and supports voice controls as well. The main camera module is waterproof for up to 10 meters but you will need a waterproof case if you want to use it with the other additional accessories.

The GoPro Hero 10 houses a 23MP CMOS camera sensor that can record videos at a peak resolution of 5.3K at 60 FPS.  It also shoots great slow-mo videos as it can shoot 1080P videos at a frame rate of 270 FPS. The camera lens has a special coating that repels out any water traces left on it after its contact with water. GoPro Hero 10 has tools like Hindsight, TimeWarp 3.0, and 3D noise reduction that help out in taking some impressive shots.

Image Stabilization

When it comes to image stabilisation, all of the three cameras do an incredible job. The GoPro Hero 10 Black uses a system called Hypersmooth 4.0. DJI’s Action 2 has Rocksteady 2.0. The Insta360 Go 2 has FlowState Stabilization technology.

On the horizon levelling setting, both Insta360 GO 2 and DJI Action 2 can be rotated 360-degrees while maintaining a steady lock on the horizon. Compared to the GoPro Hero 10 Black that maxes out at 45-degrees, this is seriously impressive. It must be noted that DJI only supports this horizon stabilisation in resolutions below 4K and at less than 100fps.The Insta360 GO 2 handles stabilisation in the same way as FOV, letting you choose your stabilisation type afterwards in the app, whereas the DJI  Action 2  will need to be selected before recording.

Battery life

The battery on the Insta360 Go 2 can last for about 30 minutes on the video mode, and up to 150 minutes in the case. However, the 30 minutes drops substantially when used out of the case with stabilisation modes on.

The DJI Action 2  is powered by an in-built 580 mAh battery pack that is enough to power it for about 70 minutes at 1080P @ 30FPS with stabilization off. When the Front Touchscreen Module is connected, the battery life can be extended to up to 160 minutes. And when the Power Module is attached, battery endurance can hit 180 minutes.

The GoPro Hero 10 packs a 1720 mAh battery pack that can record up to 63-minute clips at 4K/60fps, whereas in 5.3K at 60fps you will run out of juice in 29 minutes. You need to keep the flap on the right side open to charge the camera which could be a little bothersome but you can keep spare charged batteries that you simply replace when needed.

Bottom Line

Insta360 GO 2 vs. DJI Action 2 vs. GoPro HERO10: Which is Right for You?

There are loads of things to love about all of these three action cameras. Which one is right for may depend on your demand. The Insta360 Go 2 is  the smallest action camera in the market .  Compared to the DJI Action 2 and the GoPro HERO10, it does lack some features, like 4K video recording capabilities and has a little less battery life , it can still record a good quality of 1080P videos. If you’re looking for a compact-sized action camera that you can carry anywhere without thinking twice, then the Insta360 Go 2 could be the best camera for you.

The DJI Action 2 is a more compact camera than the GoPro Hero 10 Black. Its Horizon Steady horizon levelling outperforms that of the HERO 10 Black, it doesn't quite stack up to the best from GoPro when it comes to image quality consistency – especially in low light. In addition, it's very expensive. But for gadget lovers who want the best looking, most novel, premium-feeling action camera around, they don’t come more striking than the modular DJI Action 2.

The GoPro Hero 10 can shoot impressive 5K videos and that too with the stability of HyperSmooth 4.0, it is probably one of the best action cameras in the market and stays on top of lists of best action cameras just like its predecessors.  So if you need the best action camera with features like 5k video and a front-facing live view screen, then the GoPro HERO 10 Black are your best choice.
