  • Vitamin C: 67% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI)

  • Folate: 15% of the RDI

  • Potassium: 10% of the RDI

2. High in Antioxidants

Orange juice is also high in antioxidants, which are necessary for maintaining overall health. They also help to prevent diseases.

3. May Improve Heart Health

Orange juice may help increase levels of “good” HDL cholesterol and decrease total and “bad” LDL cholesterol, as well as diastolic blood pressure.

4. May Decrease Inflammation

In addition, orange juice can reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation typically occurs as a response to protect the body against infection. However, sustaining inflammation for a long amount of time can lead to chronic diseases.

Orange juice can increase the pH or urine, making it more alkaline. Studies show that having a higher, more alkaline urinary pH may aid in preventing kidney stones.

Here are 3 health disadvanteges of juice drinking:

1.Lack of fiber

While drinking your fruits and vegetables is a convenient way to reach your daily produce goals, eating whole fruits and veggies, with their intact fiber, will likely leave you more satisfied. When you eat a piece of whole fruit, its intact fiber slows digestion of the natural sugars.

2.Not all juices are equal

The term “juicing” refers to juice extraction from fruits and vegetables, but not all juices are created equal, and many are not 100 percent juice. Some are thinned or filtered, while juice “cocktails” or juice blends may contain one or more juices, with much of the sugar coming from added sugars.

3. It’s not “magic.”

Even though phytonutrients may also support our immune system, juice isn’t a magic elixir for detoxing or boosting the immune system.

Florida's Natural Growers was founded in 1933 as Florida Citrus Canners Cooperative. Its initial operations included canning juice and grapefruit sections for its members,[2] and in 1938 began extracting juice with automated machines. During World War II, the company produced concentrated orange juice for the military; after the war, 80% of the juice the company produced was in frozen concentrate form to meet consumer demand for the relatively new, convenient form.

In the 1960s, consumer demand shifted to fresh-squeezed orange juice, and frozen concentrate sales declined while demand for chilled juices increased. In 1969, the cooperative took the name Citrus World and adopted the current name in 1998.

Florida's Natural produces not-from-concentrate citrus juices (mainly orange juice) under the Florida's Natural and Donald Duck brand names. In the 1970s and 1980s, Florida's Natural worked with The Walt Disney Company to develop the Orange Bird character for marketing and promotions. It was the only national orange juice maker that uses only US-grown fruit (grown by its cooperative members primarily in Polk County, Florida) in its products. Nearly all other juice makers use a mix of domestic and imported (Brazil) citrus fruit.

Juice Language: What the Labels Mean

    • Concentrate: Fruit juice that has been concentrated by removing some of the water content.

    • Reconstituted: Fruit juice prepared by adding water to concentrate.

    • Not from concentrate (NFC): This juice does not have any water removed or added back. It may be pasteurised.

    • Fresh: Does not contain any additives, flavours or juices that have undergone a concentration process. Fresh juices may not have been pasteurised, stored frozen or contain frozen juice and have a short shelf-life.

    • Pure: Not from concentrate juices that contain no additives but could be a combination of fruit juices.

    • 100%: Means the same as 'pure' for not from concentrate juices. If reconstituted from concentrate, the label will say '100% juice from concentrate' or '100% reconstituted fruit juice.

How to Choose Healthy Juice Brands?

Here are some tips to help you reap the full nutritional benefits of organic juice:

    • 100% fruit juice. You want to buy a juice that contains zero added sugars and zero ingredients except plain ol' juice. he first ingredient, which makes up the majority of the product, should be the fruit juice itself. If an added sugar is listed in the first three ingredients, it most likely contains a large amount.

    • 12 grams or less of sugar. Okay, so no added sugar…but what about naturally occurring sugar? To aim for a juice with 12 grams or less of sugar (which is still three teaspoons, FYI). But given that the daily recommended limit for women is 25 grams, you really don't want to be drinking half your day's sugar in one glass of OJ.

    • Added vitamins and minerals. Some healthy juice brands are fortified with extra goodies, and that's a great way to maximize the health benefits whenever you choose to drink your fruit instead of eating it. Try to choose a juice that offers a nutritional benefit, like providing a source of fiber to support digestive health, or being a good source of a key nutrient such as vitamin C.

    • Look for the organic seal. The organic seal indicates that at least 95% of ingredients are certified organic and produced without the use of most synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.

    • Limit your serving size. Since juice is not as filling as whole fruit, stick to a 1-cup serving to avoid consuming excessive calories and sugar. Keep in mind, many single-serve bottles contain much more than 1 cup.

    The Juice Tips and Advice

    • When buying orange juice, take a look at the ingredient list. Opt for orange juice that is pure and natural and doesn’t contain any additives or added sugar.

    • Consider how fast you will go through an open carton or bottle of orange juice. Many orange juice packages need to be consumed within a week to 10 days after opening and need to be stored in the fridge.

    • Pulp or no pulp – this is a personal preference many shoppers feel strongly about. This depends on the texture you prefer in your juice.

    • Pay attention to the language used when talking about the orange juice. A common term noted is “not from concentrate”. This means that the orange juice has been pasteurized and the oxygen has been removed. This enables the orange juice to be stored for longer, but it also takes away natural flavor components. “

    • Some orange juice brands enrich the juice with additional vitamins. These may include calcium and vitamin D. This is a good option if you’re looking to enrich your diet with more nutrients.
