When this dryer was first released, it immediately became the standard against which every other hair drying device was judged. Its ergonomic design and fast-drying power motor make it both comfortable and convenient to use.Three easy-to-attach, interchangeable magnetic extensions — the Styling Concentrator, Smoothing Nozzle, and Diffuser — allow for varied air distribution, accommodating multiple hair types. Its balanced weight distribution keeps it steady as you move it around your head, unlike top-heavy models.

Key Benefits:

  • The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is engineered to protect hair from extreme heat damage for fast drying and precision styling

  • Five styling attachments engineered for different hair types, including a new attachment that hides flyaways in a single pass for a smooth, shiny finish

  • NEW flyaway attachment is inspired by professional stylists and harnesses the Coanda effect to lift longer hairs and hide flyaways, giving you a smooth salon finish at home.

 Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Construction

An homage to Dyson’s best-selling fans, the supersonic has a hole at its center and a motor that is smaller, lighter, and quieter than that of traditional hair dryers. This makes it extremely easy to hold, and your shoulders won’t burn at all in the process (it weighs less than one pound).

The dryer has three buttons on its head behind the noddle: an on/off switch, heat settings, and airflow settings. They’re all easy to reach with one thumb. The cord is extra long, which is convenient if you don’t have an outlet nearby for your blow-dry sesh.

It comes with three magnetic attachments: two nozzles and one diffuser. Dyson also sells other attachments, like a wide tooth comb, separately.

The Iron/Fuchsia (standard), Purple/Nickel and Black/Nickel Supersonic hair dryers all arrive with the hair dryer itself, plus the following MAGNETIC accessories:

  • Styling concentrator:a slim nozzle that controls the airflow to dry your hair one section at a time.

  • Smoothing nozzle:directs gentle, low-velocity airflow to dry and style your hair simultaneously

  • Diffuser:for enhancing and controlling curls, helping to reduce frizz and improve definition and sass.

Who Should Get the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer?

  • All hair styles, including coarse hair and curly hair

  • Anyone who regularly uses hot styling tools (straightener, curling iron, etc.) after blow drying

  • Women who prefer a smooth, frizz-free blowout

  • Hairstylists and professionals

How to Use the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer?

Dyson Flyaway Attachment:

  • Attach with curve facing horizontally; simply glide over dry hair with airflow pushing down hair.

  • Should be used at the end of your hair styling routine.

Dyson Styling Concentrator Attachment:

  • Rotate the styling concentrator to match the direction you’re styling in.

  • Use a round brush to guide your hair and create your style.

Dyson Diffuser Attachment:

  • To start, don’t comb or brush your hair once washed; you don't want to interrupt your hair’s natural curl.

  • Tip: Comb it out while you condition, and you should be good to go.

  • Gather your hair into the diffuser, starting at the tips.

  • Very gently push the hair upward.

  • The trick is to move your natural curls as little as possible, so try not to brush or touch your hair and stick to the lowest airflow setting.

Dyson Gentle Air Attachment:

  • Diffuses the air, creating a gentler, cooler airflow while still drying air fast.

  • To create volume, start with volumizing spray and use attachment close to the roots; shape ends and lock style with a cool shot.

Dyson Wide Tooth Comb Attachment:

  • Robust teeth help to lengthen hair as it dries, or create volume and shape.

  • Use a smoothing cream throughout hair; part into sections; slowly comb through hair using a cold shot to lock in style.

  • To relax curls, comb through hair in small sections.

>>Dyson Airwrap Complete Styler

Google Users Rating: 4.4/5

Source:dyson.com

Dyson Airwrap Complete Styler is engineered for multiple hair types and styles. Featuring Coanda air styling and propelled by the Dyson digital motor, this styler can curl, wave, smooth, and dry without extreme heat, thanks to a microprocessor with intelligent heat control to help prevent extreme heat damage. It attracts and wraps hair, using only air, and styles and dries simultaneously.

Key Benefits:

  •  No extreme heat damage;

  • Attracts and wraps hair, using only air;

  • Styles and dries simultaneously.

The Dyson Airwrap  Complete Construction

The Dyson Airwrap is a styling dryer that includes 8 removable attachments that style and dry your hair at the same time. It’s more compact than the Supersonic, and unlike the hair dryer, the attachments aren’t just accessories, they’re the main point. The Airwrap Complete comes with 6 attachments, which include two sets of barrels to curl or wave, two brushes to smooth and volumize, and a pre-drying styler (basically a smaller version of the Supersonic hair dryer).

The Airwrap uses the Coanda effect, which is an aerodynamic phenomenon that curves air to attract and wrap hair around the barrels. With the Airwrap barrels, styling is a little more effort- and time-intensive, as you’ll need to use a different barrel for each side of your head (for clockwise and counter-clockwise curls.

Dyson Hair Dryer vs. Dyson Airwrap Performance

  • Design and Attachments

The Dyson Airwrap comes with more attachments while the Supersonic offers more color options.

Dyson’s signature color scheme of iron and fuchsia pink is consistent in both the Airwrap styler and the Supersonic hair dryer. Even their attachments match the color scheme of the styler and the hair dryer to maintain their premium look whatever variant you decide to get. They are both well-built, made of high-quality materials, and thoughtfully designed to maximize convenience and comfort while styling or drying. Their attachments can be detached and changed easily, with the Airwrap styler’s one-click attachments and the Supersonic’s magnetic styling attachments.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer comes with three styling attachments:

  1. Smoothing nozzle: offers smooth and controlled airflow for a natural-looking finish

  2. Styling concentrator: releases high-velocity blade of air for styling sections

  3. Diffuser: for reducing frizz while defining curls or waves

Meanwhile, the Dyson Airwrap styler complete set comes with the following attachments:

  1. Pre-styling dryer: to turn wet hair to damp and styling-ready

  2. 1.6″ Airwrap barrels (one clockwise and one counterclockwise): for looser curls or waves

  3. 1.2″ Airwrap barrels (one clockwise and one counterclockwise): for slightly tighter curls or waves

  4. Soft smoothing brush: works better for finer hair

  5. Firm smoothing brush: works better for frizzier or coarser hair

  6. Volumizing brush: for adding volume and body to the hair

  • Frizz

People always achieve a frizz-free blowout with the Dyson Supersonic, especially if a use this spray beforehand. We can achieve the same smooth, sleek look with the Airwrap’s brush attachments, however, when we use the barrels to curl our hair, we always inevitably hair a flew flyaways or kinky areas near our areas and our neck that are a little frizzy.

  • Speed

we have found the Supersonic is much faster for an all-over blow dry. The pre-styling dryer and brush attachments on the Airwrap can also dry rather quickly (and effortlessly, keep in mind—remember what we said about having coffee in hand above!), but if we use the Airwrap barrels, the entire process takes me a solid 40 minutes to an hour.

  • Hair Protection

Both products protect the hair equally. Unlike traditional curlers and hair straighteners, neither uses only direct heat to style your hair. The air, of course, can get hot, but both also use powerful airflow to smooth, dry, and style the hair.

  • Versatility

The Airwrap is absolutely the more versatile of the two options. If you’re up for the challenge of learning how to use it and want one hair tool that will dry, straighten, and curl, you can get all of those things with the Dyson Airwrap. If you enjoy a simple, sleek blowout (the pretty kind where your ends are curled under) or prefer to rough dry your hair and then style it with a curling iron, flat iron, or wand, we definitely recommend the Supersonic Hair Dryer.

  • Ease of Use

The Dyson hair dryer is the winner in this category by a long shot. The Coanda effect (the hair magically curling around the Airwrap barrels), while amazing, isn’t easy to learn how to utilize. Once you learn it, it’s like riding a bike, but the learning curve for the Airwrap is steep and may feel frustrating to most people who aren’t good or expert-level at hairstyling.

Similarities Between the Dyson Supersonic and the Airwrap

Although these Dyson hair tools look quite different out of the box, they do share a few things in common:

  1. Both sold by Dyson, which is known for top-notch engineering. They simply feel more well-built, efficient, and powerful than other hair tools.

  2. They can be used on damp hair and dry hair.

  3. Both are lightweight, preventing you from tiring as you dry.

  4. Both have multiple speed settings and heat settings, including a cool shot button.

  5. Both feature intelligent heat control to prevent damage.

  6. Both have ionic technology to help smooth the hair.

  7. They’re available at Dyson.com and multiple third-party retailers, like Amazon and Sephora.

Differences Between the Dyson Supersonic and the Airwrap

Here are the main differences between the Airwrap and the Supersonic to keep in mind:

  1. The Airwrap comes with a storage case and non-slip heat mat, the Supersonic does not.

  2. The Supersonic can be used on wet hair; the Airwrap works best on damp or dry hair.

  3. The Supersonic has a higher wattage (1600w) and can deliver hotter and stronger airflow.

  4. The Supersonic has 3 different attachments, and the Airwrap Complete has 6.

  5. The airflow rate in the Dyson Supersonic is 41 L/S, while the Airwrap’s is just 13 L/S.

  6. The Airwrap can dry, straighten, smooth, and curl, while the Supersonic excels at smooth, fast blowouts.

Verdict

  • Both the Dyson Airwrap styler and the Supersonic hair dryer are undoubtedly innovative devices. While they seem expensive at a glance, they’ll pay for themselves in the long run as they won’t damage your hair, unlike with using conventional stylers or dryers. With either tools, you’ll enjoy healthier, shinier hair and save yourself from having to use expensive serums, going to the hairdresser for getting rid of split ends, or getting treatments for heat-damaged hair.

  • If you want to achieve more hair styles and don’t want to have to use a separate brush while styling your hair, the versatile Dyson Airwrap styler better fits your needs. However, if you only want to dry your hair quickly with lower temperature and don’t care much about all the other styling features that the Airwrap can offer, then the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is more than enough.

You can do more with the Dyson Airwrap styler complete than with the Supersonic hair dryer

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer vs. Dyson Airwrap FAQs

1.Can the Dyson Airwrap replace the Supersonic?

The Dyson Airwrap can also be used as a hair dryer. However, its airflow is weaker compared to the Supersonic, so it can’t really be a replacement in the conventional sense.

2.Can the Dyson Airwrap be used as a Hair Dryer?

Yes, the pre-styling dryer attachment and the smoothing brushes can be used to dry the hair. The pre-styling dryer’s nozzle is not as large as the hair dryer nozzles, however, so it may take more time. The smoothing brushes dry just as fast and possibly smoother than the Dyson Hair Dryer.

3.What Hair Types do the Airwrap and the Supersonic Work Best for?

The Supersonic has a wide variety of attachments that come with the tool or can be purchased separately, and it works with all hair types. The Airwrap, in my experience, works best with people who do not have thick, coarse, textured hair.

4.Dyson Hair Dryer vs. Dyson Airwrap: Which is Better?

It depends! If you’re looking for an all-in-one hair drying and styling tool, enjoy styling your hair, and have the money to spend, I think it’s a worthwhile addition to your hair collection. If you’re just looking for a great hair dryer that’s going to complement other hair styling tools you already love, go with the Supersonic Airwrap.

5.Where Can I Find a Dyson Supersonic or Dyson Airwrap on Sale?

The both are available as a refurbished version from the Dyson offcial eBay store, which you can find here. We have also seen them on sale occasionally at Nordstrom Rack.
