Things to see

Any trip to the island of Gran Canaria should include a visit to Las Palmas, the island's capital. There you can stroll the cobblestone streets of Vegueta, the oldest city quarter on the island, and admire the traditional architecture. The Vegueta is also home to the Santa Ana Cathedral and square. Once you cross Mayor de Triana street, you will arrive at the shopping and restaurant area. Enjoy the famous local potato dish papas arrugadas with mojo sauce at any of the bars and restaurants.

Maspalomas Dunes

Take your pick between frolicking in a sea of water or in a sea of sand at the Maspalomas Sand Dunes Nature Reserve. There are three distinct areas of dunes: the Palmeral, the Charca and the Dunas, together creating a gorgeous natural scape. While there, observe how the ocean wind has moulded and shaped the sand dunes, and watch migratory birds take a rest at Charca, their stopping point and oasis on their long journey to Africa.

The beaches

Gran Canaria has a wide range of beaches to enjoy. In total, the island has 60 km of beaches that, thanks to the mild island climate, can be enjoyed year-round. One of the most well-known areas is Maspalomas, with its long stretch of sand running from Playa del Inglés (Englishman's Beach) to the lighthouse. Other top beaches include San Agustín, Amadores and Mogán Port beach, all in the southern part of the island.
