Louis Vuitton wallets are known for pristine construction. It was the iconic LV Zippy wallet marked by its distinctive checked canvas, zipper trim, and bountiful card slots that first made Louis Vuitton's wallets covetable. However, LV products are often targets for counterfeiting. Wondering how to authenticate a original Louis Vuitton Sarah, victorine, or zipper wallet? 1. The Overall Look of Louis Vuitton Wallet

1)  LV wallets are available in over 20 different versions or models. Each version differs in terms of shape, size, closure or inner compartments. The following purses and wallets are currently available:   Louis Vuitton Sarah Wallet, Victorine Wallet, ZIPPY Wallet, Damier Azur Wallet, Brazza Wallet, Irise Wallet, etc.

2) A very important thing about the LV bag is the symmetry of its monogram pattern.  Usually, the pattern designs don't cross over seams.  Perfectly matched, square for square, circle for circle the pattern still looks continuous, despite the side seam.  It always start and finishes with the same symbol-following a mirror-like image, regardless of the position of the area. If any of the designs are intersected, this indicates a fake.

3) Squeeze the wallet to check for a thick structure. Authentic LV wallets are usually thicker than fakes because they're made of sturdier material. Feel the wallet to make sure it's thick and feels sturdy. Fakes will feel like plastic and nowhere near as sturdy.

2. The Material of Louis Vuitton Wallet

1) The main Materials for Louis Vuitton wallets are: Monogram canvas,Damier Ebene canvas, Damier Azure canvas, Epi (leather), Monogram Vernis leather, Monogram empreinte leather, Monogram multicolore canvas, Mahina leather. In addition to these materials, there are limited editions that vary the existing material in design, such as the Monogram Canvas Cerises, in which the Monogram. Canvas is printed with colorful cherries. Many of the materials mentioned are then available in different colors, so that a multitude of variants are created.

2) Smell the wallet to confirm that it's real leather. LV wallets should be made of real leather, unless the product description says otherwise. The wallet should feel and smell like pure leather. If it smells like chemicals or plastic, it's fake.

3) Even though the authentic leather is textured and not smooth either, the grainy surface of the fake leather is not so accurately. It should be a little smoother.

3. The Font of Logo &“made in” Label

1) The LV logo  stamp appears on the wallet product, and might also be on the front or back of the wallet cover.  The color of the stamp in the wallet needs to be the same as the hardware color of the wallet.

2) The made in tag consists of "®" on the first line, "LOUIS VUITTON" on the second line, "PARIS" on the third, "made in xx country" on the last line. All lines are centered, "LOUIS VUITTON PARIS" are always in uppercase and "made in" are always in lowercase. The registered trademark symbol (®) is slightly smaller on the authentic Louis Vuitton.

3) The "L" in the logo has a very short tail. If it looks like a standard L, then this isn't correct. The O's are also very round look larger than the other letters, while the tops of the 2 T's nearly touch each other. There are some exceptions to this rule for special or limited releases.

4) Check the letters and spacing on the Louis Vuitton logo. Letters in each word are all close together, but there is a space between both words. Some counterfeits omit this space and make Louis Vuitton look like one word.

5) Since most Louis Vuitton products are made in France, counterfeiters usually slap "Made in France" on all their products automatically. However, LV has workshops in a few different countries. They also occasionally release special lines or collaborates with other companies, and these products might be made elsewhere. LV leather products like wallets are all manufactured in France, Spain, or the US. Some other products are made in Switzerland and Italy. Look on the LV website to confirm where a particular line was manufactured. If it was somewhere besides where the stamp says, then this is a fake product.

4. Louis Vuitton Date Code

1) Identify the date code on the inside of the wallet if it has one. In 1980's , Louis Vuitton started adding country and date codes to some products. This code may be on a tab inside the wallet or directly stamped onto the interior leather.

2) Louis Vuitton Date Code is a combination of numbers and characters. The letters indicate the country where the item was produced, and the numbers indicate the month/year of the production date. Unlike Chanel bag serial number, LV date code is not unique and cannot be considered a serial number.

3) The format of the date codes

  • Prior to early 1980s:No date codes.

  • Early 1980s: Three or four numbers with the first two numbers representing the year and last number(s) representing the month.

  • Early to late 1980s:Three or four numbers followed by two letters with the first two numbers representing the year, the next number(s) representing the month and the last two letters representing the country.

  • 1990 to 2006:Two letters followed by four numbers with the first two letters representing the factory location, the first and third numbers representing the month and the second and fourth numbers representing the year.

  • 2007 to now: Two letters followed by four numbers with the first two letters representing the factory location, the first and third numbers representing the week of the year, and the second and fourth numbers representing the year.

4) Louis Vuitton Factory Location Codes:

  • France: A0, A1, A2, AA, AAS (Special Order), AH, AN, AR, AS, BA, BJ, BU, DR, DU, DR, DT, CO, CT, CX, ET, FL, LW, MB, MI, NO, RA, RE(also Italy), RI, SD (also USA), SF, SL, SN, SP, SR, TJ, TH, TR, TS, VI, VX.

  • Germany: LP, OL. Italy BC, BO, CE, FO, MA, OB, PL, RC, RE, SA, TD.

  • Spain: BC, CA, LO, LB, LM, LW, GI, UB.

  • Switzerland: DI, FA (also Italy).

  • USA: FC, FH, LA, OS, SD, FL.

  • Italy: BO, CE, FA, FO, RE, MA, NQ, PL,PC.

For example, the bag's date code (SD0064) has the correct numbers, placement, and the correct stamping. As you can see from my breakdown below this bag is from 2004.

SD: Made in France;

1st & 3rd Numbers: Month of manufacturing – June;

2nd & 4th Numbers: Year of manufacturing – 2004.

5) Remember: The lettering on the date code should match the country listed on the outer tab. If your date code said “LPxxxx”, but the outer tab said "made in USA" then you know it's a fake bag.

According to the brand owner, genuine LV bags do not have NFC sensor chips, all bags that claim can be recognized by the NFC sensor function of mobile phones are counterfeit and imitation products.

5. The Interior Material & Card Holders of Louis Vuitton Wallet

1) Make sure the interior is as well-made as the exterior. Check inside the wallet on areas that aren't immediately visible. An authentic LV product will have perfect stitching and sturdy materials everywhere, but a counterfeiter might try to hide imperfections inside the wallet. Some fake wallets use fabric lining instead of leather, or try to hide poor stitching behind flaps.

1654934026198314.jpg

2) You can see the interior of the authentic model is more spacious than it is in the replica. The cardholders on the fake wallet are supposed to be as close to each other as they are on the original wallet.

6. The Hardware & Puller of Louis Vuitton Wallet

1) Touch the zippers and other hardware to make sure they're quality metal. Counterfeiters often use cheaper materials for the wallet hardware. Hardware on authentic LV products should feel heavy and sturdy, and look semi-matte, or glossy.

QQ截图20220611160342.jpg

2) LV usually stamps its logo on the hardware as well. Any “LV” or “Louis Vuitton” markings should be clear, clear and centered. Counterfeiters might skip this step, or they might use low-quality stamping methods that product a faded and imprecise logo.

7. The Zipper of Louis Vuitton Wallet

Each tooth on the authentic zipper is perfectly straight whereas they are crooked on the fake wallet. As a result, the slider will struggle while moving while the authentic one will slide smoothly. The slider itself is different too on the fake: it is bigger and wider than it is supposed to be with a different shade of gold.

1654934837825288.jpg

8. The Stitching of Louis Vuitton Wallet

1) LV products are all held to the highest quality standards. Look at the stitching along the entire wallet. All of the stitches should be in a perfectly straight line and an even distance from each other. Any inconsistencies or imperfections indicate a fake.

2) Look closely at the corners. It takes a lot of skill to keep the stitching straight around turns or corners and counterfeiters usually mess up here.

9. The Dust Bag of Louis Vuitton Wallet

1) The box and the protective bag basically say nothing about the authenticity of the Louis Vuitton wallet, since some of these original accessories can be bought on eBay, but the product is still a fake. However, if the box or the protective cloth are not original, then the wallet is very likely a fake.

2) Original Louis Vuitton dust bag should pay attention to the following features: Solid beige cotton fabric; The edge of the bag is sewn clean; The lettering“LOUIS VUITTON" is horizontally printed in the middle;  Models before 2003 are brown instead of beige and show the initials“LV”.

1654935596633808.jpg

10.The Original Box of Louis Vuitton Wallet

The outside of the box is dark brown or orange with a textured surface. The“LOUIS VUITTON”lettering is printed and noticeably embossed. The inside of the box is beige. Clean processed edges and no processing errors. If you see visible glue spots, unclean processing and adhesive smell indicate a forgery.
