Grab the sunless tanning lotion and suck in your (not as poochy as you think it is) stomach. It’s time to go swimsuit shopping. Not ready to face the dressing room, with its three-way mirror and horrifying fluorescent lighting? Me either. That’s why I’m skipping the panic-attack-inducing torture test that is the department store swimsuit hunt and shopping online instead.
All of these suits from Bluefly.com can be returned. So, if you try it on in the comfort of your own bedroom only to discover that you need a size bigger (or smaller—yay!), it’s no biggie. I’m on a shop-at-home-to-preserve-my-sanity crusade. Are you with me? Good.
To enhance my swim shopping pleasure, this year I’m ditching the teeny-weeny bikini pressure (my summer will not be one long shoot for the Sports Illustrated swim issue, thank you very much). Instead, I’m thinking one piece—even though I haven’t owned one since my mother let me pick out my first bikini (age 5) and since I fell in love with the ease of the tankini (age 24). Really, one-piece swimwear has come a long way. One pieces used to be very mom-in-a-swim-skirt or ultra reminiscent of the high school swim team.
Now, they’re pretty darn sexy, which is a relief. After all, none of us wants to look dowdy in a swimsuit. On the flip side, I don’t know about you, but I like to know that I’m not going to swim right out of my bikini top (hey, it happens!). And I don’t like to always be bothered with all that sucking-it-in business and worrying that my naughty bits may be on display. I want to actually relax on the beach or by the pool.

Enter the new one-piece swimsuits—the ones that let you breathe and order up an extra margarita (or three) without so much fret about this curve or that (typically nonexistent) flaw. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather worry about what trashy beach read I’ll dive into first.
Again, you can nab all of these curve-loving suits at Bluefly.com:
1. Back in Black: Steadfast fashion rule No. 1: If it’s black, it’s slimming. Enough said. Black Nylon Beaded Bonita One-Piece, Trina Turk.
2. Connect the Dots: Small prints, such as this smattering of multi-colored dots, conceal imperfections. You know, if you have any. White Circle Print Halter One-Piece, Versace.
3. No Need for Straps: A shoulder-bearing strapless suit shows off your gorgeous arms, while the ruching enhances the bust. The best part? No shoulder tan lines. Yellow Solid Shirred Strapless Swimsuit, Badgley Mischka Platinum Label.
4. Ahoy, Matey: Nothing says summer like a nautical theme. And, no matter what you’ve heard about stripes, these vertical lines will slim you. Plus, who can resist that plunging neckline? Metallic Striped Halter One-Piece, French Connection.
5. Birds of a Feather: If you have a long torso, bold prints help to play up your curves. How gorgeous is this peacock print? And the golden metal halter piece at the neck? Amazingly chic. Peacock Print Lorelli One-Piece, L Space.
6. Seeing Red: If black is always slimming, then red is always sexy—without fail. Rose Retro Square One-Piece Halter Swimsuit, Lisa Curran Swim.
