We’re tired of mismatched luggage and ad-hoc carry-on gear. And we’re pretty sure our significant others agree. True story: Not so long ago, in a land not so far away, a twentysomething lad set off through a crowded airport with a lavender-hued suitcase in tow. (Full disclosure, that kind sir was one of our misters. With no overhead-bin-worthy luggage to call his own, he borrowed.)
After his unfortunate lesson in humility, several things occurred to us: First, a hapless young man with pale purple luggage will be on the receiving end of many sideways stares. And, most importantly, a new his-and-hers set of luggage and carry-on bags is certainly a wise investment.
You see, we really dig frugality and items that pull double duty. So the idea of owning luggage that we can both use—together or separately—makes oodles of sense. And, being the type of people who can never resist a legitimate reason to shop, we set off on an excursion to find baggage masculine enough for him and stylish enough for her. That quest led us to the gender-neutral collection of Piel Leather bags.
While we’re excited about our fresh find, the Piel Leather line of bags is certainly nothing new. They’ve been producing naked leather luggage and products since the early ’70s. What is naked leather, you ask? It’s leather that has been dyed with no additional finishes applied. Translation: It ages naturally into some of the most soft, supple leather around, and its warm glow and richness only increase with age. (Considering that none of our other luggage has aged gracefully, this is certainly an exciting prospect.)
We’re making all sorts of plans for the pocketbook friendly pieces in the Piel Leather line of duffels, carry-ons, travel bags and portfolios. We’ll pick up a piece here and there until we have a complete, lovely set worthy of trips for two. Because, in the land of coupling, this is one of the few instances in which excess baggage (of the non-purple variety) is a good thing.
