We admit that when it comes to clothes, we haven’t always been the most ardent eBay shoppers. It’s just kind of disheartening to gaze at all those sad, rumpled articles of clothing strewn carelessly on someone’s living room carpet, inexpertly photographed and then plopped onto the site in too-small photos that get lost among other too-small photos. Then, we met our eBay shopping destiny: Lullie Vintage Clothing and Liebemarlene Vintage.
As the names suggest, both eBay shops deal in vintage wares. When we first stumbled upon the Lullie and Liebemarlene shops, our hearts quickened. The photography is thoughtful—inspired even. Plus, the curators of these shops have vision. Much like the designers of our favorite runway collections, both vendors have a solid (and butterfly-in-the-stomach-inducing) editorial view. Every time we visit these shops, we find ourselves wanting—nay, needing!—every impeccably chosen dress, top and cardigan in sight.
Why We Love Them
We’ve shared but a few favorite pieces above, all of which you can nab for oh-so-reasonable prices. In fact, both of the Lullie dresses pictured here are now 20 percent off (sale ends this week!). Because Lullie’s pieces are sold sans bidding, we can say with certainty that the floral mini dress sells for $28.79 and the ruffle party dress goes for $64.79. And, the last time we checked, bidding for all three of the Liebemarlene pieces featured here still hadn’t reached the $20 mark.
Aside from offering affordable, ethereal dresses, dreamy blouses and the like, the clothes at Lullie and Liebemarlene are vintage, which we love for reasons far too numerous to mention here. But we’ll try anyway.
Clothes Too Cute to Forget
The thought of someone cultivating a small, special collection of clothes to share with you is just so romantic. Much like Lullie and Liebemarlene, the best and most thoughtful vintage sellers are out there combing through racks and scouring store after store to bring a carefully edited—and might we add, highly covetable—selection of unique clothing that you simply won’t find on super-cluttered department store shelves.
Not convinced? We realize that many may equate “vintage” with old, worn-out and raggedy (or worse, something you might see at the nursing home—sorry, grandma!). Hardly. There is a reason why starlets and leading ladies choose vintage: Each piece is unique and kissed with details that are lacking in many mass-produced goods on store shelves now.
Not to mention, when you buy vintage, you’re recycling. We dare not use the “trash to treasure” mantra to describe these gorgeous vintage wares because, honestly, you simply won’t find any rubbish at Lullie or Liebemarlene.
A Vintage Love Story
Call us sentimental, but we adore that each article of vintage clothing comes with a story—one that is typically concocted in our heads, sure, but a story nonetheless. After all, each piece has lived a whole other life (maybe a magical one) before it graces your closet. Perhaps that vintage pea coat was draped upon the shoulders of a woman who lived a world away when she first laid eyes on her forever type of mister. You know, when she found her black and white movie kind of love.
Shae, the founder of Lullie Vintage Clothing, put it best: “Vintage garments are a lot like us modern girls. That cute vintage piece has seen good times and bad times yet survived still looking beautiful and stylish. I love that.” We love it, too. So, get thee to eBay for a little browsing and lots of eye candy at the Lullie and Liebemarlene shops. You know, before we outbid you.
