Something about the arrival of fall just screams “weekend at the cabin.” Alas, we have no cabins to call our own—nor weekends to spare, for that matter. But that won’t keep us from longing for woodsman style.

All it takes is a walk in the woods—or a hike on a city trail—to stir dreams of closets brimming with flannel, wool and rugged leather. This time of year, we always find ourselves wanting to display pinecones on our shelves and longing to spread wooden accessories throughout the house. There’s just something so enticing about sitting back and allowing your style to evolve with the seasons.

Can’t hit up the forest for some inspiration? Borrow a little from us. We’ve scoured our favorite stores for cozy, earthy pieces that will transport you to a rustic cabin in the woods where the fireplace is all the entertainment you could ever ask for.

1. Rugged Dress: With its furry accents and snug hood, this dress is not your boyfriend’s standard button-down flannel. It even has four (count them, four!) pockets for all of your woodland tools—compass, Swiss army knife, flashlight. Or, you know, your lip gloss and cash for the coffee shop. Paired with leggings and boots, this updated flannel piece couldn’t be more lumberjack chic. Reykjavik Dress, BB Dakota, $57.99, modcloth.com.

2. Hunters and Gatherers: We would make horrible squirrels. All that foraging for acorns and stockpiling of nuts in preparation for winter—we just couldn’t get it together before the first big freeze. Lucky for us, ModCloth has done the gathering for us. This gilded acorn charm will definitely have the busy neighborhood squirrels eyeing our necks with envy. Gilded Acorn Pendant, ModCloth, $27.99, modcloth.com.

3. Rugged Boots: Studs, buckles and zippers, oh my! These boots are tough enough to handle a forest jaunt but well appointed enough for the city sidewalks. Plus, the sweater lining along the top shaft of these boots just looks so soft and comfy—two words that we rarely use to describe our footwear. Launch Boot in Cognac, Wanted, $80, piperlime.com.

4. Warm Tights: Not all tights are created equal. Some bunch, while others cut off all circulation. But these pima modal leggings, which are washed for super softness and are resistant to shrinkage, are just right. Skinny Leggings in Black, Alternative Apparel, $32, 80spurple.com.

5. Natural Lighting: Once the autumn chill works its way inside, candles are a cheap and easy way to warm up every corner of a room. And we couldn’t think of a cuter option than these votive holders printed with an acorn, a tree and a lovable little squirrel. Backyard Candle Holders, ModCloth, $19.99, modcloth.com.

6. Sounds of Nature:
Forget your sleepy-time CDs featuring whales and crashing waves. These retro faux wood veneer speakers are all the nature your audio system needs. Nature Sounds Speakers, ModCloth, $34.99, modcloth.com.

7. Biological Clock: With its dark walnut look and intricate carving, this faux cuckoo clock radiates an old world, craftsman charm. But the juxtaposition of metal and wood gives this quirky clock a cool hint of sleek modernity. One Flew Over the Cuckoo Clock, ModCloth, $54.99, modcloth.com.
